I've never written a review before. What prompted me to write one this tie is that I had a hard time making the decision to buy this game based on other reviews that I have read. I really wanted to get RISK for the PS2 but some reviews were calling it too slow and boring, others complained about bugs, and still others praised it for being a great version of the board game.

So, here's the thing. I decided to take chance (heck, it's not that expensive for a PS2 game) and pick it up.

Guess what? I loved it.

I can only imagine that the people who are complaining about it being slow never actually play bored games. If you're playing with a lot of people it sometimes takes a while to get back to your turn. Luckily, in the single player game you get to listen as the various generals comment back and forth about how things are going in the game. It's REALLY fun. I also didn't notice a lot of repetition in the voices which is something you would expect to hear when you play a game like this.

So, okay it can take a while to go through a round of turns on the default settings. Guess what though (and this will probably be a surprise to those who think the game is slow) there are a whole bunch of ways to speed up the AIs in the single-player game that makes you burn through turns really quickly. I don't know that I prefer to play this way but if I didn't have a lot of time to play a game I'd definitely want to do this.

One of the most important things about any computerized RISK game is the AI. I don't think that I've yet read any comments on this aspect of the game. Let me tell you.. it's good. REAL good. It's handed me my butt on many occasions and I'm GOOD at this game. Bravo!

Anyway, if you're thinking about getting the game, don't worry. Risk fans will love it.

I love playing Risk. My friends and are fanatical about the Playstation version that was released years ago and is now hard to find. When we heard that there was new version for the PS2 we were so excited we could hardly wait. Oh, the possibilities. New maps, new opponents, new power ups and better music....oh, wait, sorry, someone screwed up. This was perhaps the most disapointed I have been in a long time. This game has less variety than the Playstation one version. No Ultimate Risk? Only one map? My god, no power ups or options. I was imaging things like, historical maps and warring with great leaders, but there is none of that. There are no gaming options. All you can do is play with the dice. That is it. I special ordered this game because no where around where I live was going to get it and I sold it for 3 dollars a week later. If only they would have called and talked to me...I could make a kick ass Risk game. This one sucked.

This is a very faithful and fun rendition of a classic board game. I bought my copy a few days ago and have played it several times since. I haven't experienced any bugs at all. There are alot of unlockables like different maps, uniforms and dice. The gameplay is smooth and once you get the controls down you'll be zooming all over the map. The online capabilities are the icing on the cake if you have the adapter. What a great bonus!

The animations are somewhat blocky at times and the "battle sequences" are overly simple, but that's really it. I wasn't expecting Dynasty Tactics here, especially not for $30. The voices get a bit annoying after a while and the soudtrack isn't scored by John Williams, but hey, if you don't like them you can turn them off and throw on a CD. I usually end up doing that with most games anyway.

I gave this title 4 of 5 because there are better strategy/tactics games out there, but as a new title that was released at a discount price, you can't go wrong with Risk. Definitely not for everyone, but if you loved the board game, I think you'll like this too.

Unlike other people, my so called "dreaded" blue disk has never failed. And there are more than one map; try, five or six maps, once you've unlokced them all. The pargment map is the best, and looks the most real. You can speed the game or keep a close watch at the process of all the battles. Although the AI are programmed to do the same thing, you can change the outcomes by mixing the generals and levels of each one. The Game of Risk also offers many uniforms, but has no MExican General or uniform, which has been somewhat dissappointing to me, personally. Overall, this version of the famous game of Risk is one of the best to reach the stores.

I was really excited to get the PS2 version of Risk. I envisioned an updated ultimate section with new maps and cool ways to customize. I WAS REALLY EXCITED!! The PS2 version is a total wipeout. REALLY LAME!! Just a bunch of boring AI characters. Ohh, special dice! Who cares about what kind of fancy dice you get to watch. That just slows the game even more. Fancy uniform upgrades. Talk about WEAK! Not to mention the flaws with the actual gameplay. Save your money and stick with the PS1 version. Shame on Atari. I expected so much more from you guys! Develop a game like the PS1 version with some major upgrades and I will be there to write a great review!!

Risk is one of those games that you can always go back to. It's a classic for a reason and now I can play that classic game on my PS2. Could this be any better? It sure can!

If you play in single-player mode you have a bunch of AI generals to play against. They all have tons of voicelines and talk both to you and each other while you're playing. It makes for a very almost surreal experience to have these 19th Century historical figures trash-talking each other and commenting on their bad dice rolling. Very fun!

You can also play this with other people. Hot-seat play can be done with up to 6 players. This makes for a great party game. Don't have that many people? That's okay because you can also fill those extra seats with those funny AI opponents.

Okay, what do you do if you don't want to do single-player but nobody can come over to play? Hook up that broadband connection and play folks online. This works pretty much like hotseat except that you're online... and can use your headset to do voice chat. Don't have one? There's a text-based chat tool as well but you'll never use it if you have that headset.

I see this one landing underneath a lot of Christmas trees this year.

I love risk. I had the EGA pc game years ago and enjoyed it, but the computer players rarely did anything remotely appearing like a strategy and were just plain stupid. Enter Risk: Global Domination. I figure it has been at least 15 years since I played the old EGA Risk. Certainly, the AI has got to be better now and the computer opponents would put up a good fight. I mean computers are beating chess masters now. How friggin' hard would it be to make a decent AI opponent in Risk? Well, apparently it is just too hard. The computer opponents are, in a word, LAME!. They appear to attack at random. They never attempt to protect territories/continents they've taken. They employ absolutely no strategy at all other than an apparent desire to lose every game. The makers of this game spent too much time on graphics, sounds, pretty dice, and fancy boards. They should have spent more time on developing an engine that would make it a challenge to play. I'd be happy with the graphics I got with my first computer (a Tandy 1000 in 1985) if that's what it would take to not have to play a bunch of monkeys.

I loved to play risk with my family days on end. When I saw this game on the store shelf, I knew i had to get it. It was worth buying, because it gives some great features such as you can play against the most famous military stratagist's in the world such as George Washington and Napolan. There's different maps to use and different dice to use such as bone dice or silver and gold dice. This game is worth buying for people who love the board game.

As someone who'se played more than his fair share of Risk over the years, I gave in and bought a copy of the PS2 version of this game in hopes of finding a more challenging AI than I found in the PC version.

It's hard to tell if I did or not, because the game is so full of bugs that it boarders on unplayable, at least if you want to play a fair game.

Here are just some of the bugs I've found so far:
-The ability to turn in the same set of card over and over again, providing an infinite number of reinforcements.
-Incorrectly displaying what cards you have. In multiplayer, the game shows your cards face down, and lets you fake out your opponents by pushing one direction to show a card for real, and another to show a fake card. The problem is, even if you push the real way, it sometimes shows you a fake.
-If you're playing with more than two people, only the first player can look at his cards. Everyone else is forced to wait until they have five or more.
-When setting up the players for a game, it randomly deletes your settings and sometimes your saved data.

It has an unlockable cheat mode, which I can only imagine being useful if it allowed you to stop the bugs from making the game unreasonable.

I would strong adivse against buying this game. Rent it, if you don't believe me, and see for yourself.

After losing Risk for Windows 98 when upgrading to Win 2000, I have been looking for a version of this game that is comparable. This is not it! I figured that the PS2 version would be far superior, but it is one of the worst versions of this video game I have ever played. Atari, take a lesson from the Hasbro Interactive Windows 98 version before you put out an update to this bomb. It is a shame, because we waited months and months for this one to come out only to be dissapointed. Save your money, you will be bored within a weak.
