Got this for my best friend for Christmas. We both love Mass Effect and Risk, and I found this online. He was very eager to play it for weeks, which means he must have really loved the gift. He never acted that way with my past Christmas gifts....

Anyway, if you love Mass Effect (and Risk), you'll love this combo board game. It's got like three different game types (we played the main one that incorporates the Reapers vs. Alliance). LOTS of rules.. no joke. It got confusing a lot of the time. However, once you get the hang of it (like regular Risk), you'll probably have great fun.

It seemed a little unfair for most of the game (my friend and I played the Reapers against his mom and sister [Alliance]). For example, the Alliance seems greatly outnumbered (like the video game) and vastly outmatched (also like the video game). Maybe we played it wrong, because we absolutely demolished his mom and sister, capturing literally every single one of their countries (or should I say galaxies? Solar systems? Sectors? Whatever, you know what I mean).

Regardless, the game was fun. And if you know Risk, you know how long it can last. Our game, though, only lasted a few hours before we conquered the entire galaxy... A good game length (or maybe it seemed short because we got a little drunk while playing).

3 games in 1, including a classic risk, a Mass Effect game, and also a card game. All are very playable though it is hard to learn the ME version at first. Extremely good at teamplay on the Alliance and Reapers. It's also a pleasing idea to include a loner faction (Cerberus). The game goals make it a lot more strategic for each faction especially if you integrate the card game. Interesting rules and ways to build and manage an army, the card swith special events are well done. I love the quality of the items in the game and how different it is from a basic risk. The only thing I dislike is the fact that the game should include 9-9 fighter ships for each player (meaning both Alliance armies should have 9) but has instead only 9-9 for each faction (meaning the Alliance team has only 9 whereas Cerberus has the same number as a loner). But beside that it's fun and makes you learn a lot. I'm happy to own this game.

I got this game for Christmas from my family and my friends and I immediately started playing it and it absolutely insanely fun. At first it was really complicated trying to get it figured out when playing the advanced version but once we got it figured out and started playing it was easy to play. It also seemed like the different teams would be really un-balanced but after playing it there is a level playing field so you can play as any faction and still enjoy it. Worth the money.

i bought it for my cousin for Christmas and we have all been playing it three to four times a week. Can get a little competitive(like all other risk games) but the cards and ships add new strategies and tactics to the game. Definitely a good buy.

Custom Mass Effect Galaxy at War rules are broken in an entirely new way, but more importantly, the build quality is *crap*. Board is misglued so that when unfolded, the inner edges don't line up. Also one of the playing pieces was not correctly molded, and another had a limb fall off when first removed from the box. Not worth the asking price.

A definite must for any fans of either Mass Effect or the original Risk game, offering a new spin on the classic board game while also staying true to it.
