I am quite glad i finally bought this cd. So nice to have the songs in their entirety in leiu of all the choped, degraded, and incomplete junk from the napster age.
I was 10yrs old when the movie was released and around 12 when vhs allowed me to view it. From the opening dream sequence to the end this was one of those rare movies that carried a strong mood and feeling throughout. Because of this even in my infancy of sexuality and intellect the film worked then and still does into my adulthood. This soundtrack allows those moods to follow me in the car or whenever i feel like putting the cd on.
All the Tangerine Dream tracks in this album are worthwhile. Something my opinion does not allow for their independent albums. Jeff's "the pump" and Phil Collins' solo carrer smash hit "in the air tonight" almost seem contrived to fit in with the somewhat ambient nature of the TD tracks. While im glad they are included "DMSR" and the rest of the other songs break up the "turn the lights off, kick back, and just breathe" mood. If you require an artificially enhanced bass line to pump up a lack of intrinsic passion or own a "melody who?" T-shirt this soundtrack may be dissapointing overall. There are some tracks missing from the movie like the Talking Heads song and the piece when Joel is talking to his parents in the living room before they leave town.

P.S. I am now positive that I dislike Bob Seger.

No regrets

I looked every where for this sound track and was told that it was no longer made. For the heck of it I looked it up on Amazon.com and there it was. I love it. The music gives me a flashback to my high school days. The songs done by Tangerine Dream just lets your mind slip away into another dimension. Especially "Love on a real train".

Risky Business was one of the great films of the eighties. It brilliantly made comedy out of situations dealing with a confused high school senior and his sexual frustrations. The soundtrack wonderfully endorses his edgy, unsure feelings, particulary the wonderful, harried pieces from Tangerine Dream. Also on the track are excellent period songs from the eighties, most notably "In the Air Tonight" from Phil Collins. This soundtrack is a perfect example of how movie music can accentuate the feelings the film's characters, while standing on its own as great listening.

This album opened me up to the world of Tangerine Dream. They are one of the most overlooked instrumental acts that has scored some of the best moments in movies.

You can't find the soundtrack on iTunes. Odd, since the movie is still pretty popular. An eclectic mix of Blues, Pop, rock and of course Tangerine Dream. "love On A Real Train" kinda makes my brain go into a different brain-wave state and reminds me why I loved the movie. "...Time of your life, huh kid?"

I liked this cd because it had some love emotion and soothes the mind and relaxes you, tracks 2,3,5,7,10,11 were my favorite.

I remember the first time I saw this movie. I was about 10 years old; I was too young to understand the themes at the time. But the mood of the movie did manage to sink into my young mind. It was fascinating, moody and though I couldn't even close begin to understand the full intent, it was sexual.
Having re-watched the movie at the age 20 I still feel the exact same feelings as I did when I was ten, but this time with a better understanding. And after having seen this again I can say I was floored.
Having no idea then, I can say this movie/soundtrack was my introduction to mood music.
I'll start with "In the air tonight", I didn't think of this piece as mood music till I saw used in the movie.
"Manish Boy" was used great in the scene it was chosen for, it expressed the urge for freedom and at the same time, the need for self-control.
Journey, Jeff Beck and Prince were all great choices to use for this soundtrack. I would go in depth but I don't want to go over the 1000 limit.

Tangerine Dream:

"Love on a real train"
This is the cornerstone of Risky Business; this song embodies the movie. The song alone stands as a mood masterpiece. I can't say enough about it; it is reason enough to buy this cd if for no other song.

"The Dream is Always the Same"

I love the song, I love the title. This song as such a sense of urgency and focus. Perfect for the movie.

"Lana"

There is always one bad apple in the bunch, this is it.

"Guido, the killer pimp"

What can I say about this song. It is a good song. Just a little misplaced.

"No future"

Cool song.

One last note:
The one song I didn't mention. Bob Seger. I left this out cause it is forever connected with Tom Cruise singing in his tighty whiteys, and this movie has better moments then that one.
We've all heard old time rock and roll, its not at mood piece. Nuff said.

While my folks were away on vacation, I caught 'Risky Business' on HBO one evening. I was 13 at the time, but remembering that I had to see the credits, because I loved the music so much! I remember buying the German Import on vinyl.
FYI, I would definitely suggest 'Wave Length' and 'Miracle Mile' too!
At 32 my tastes are more discriminating, but I pretty much bought every TD album or CD that came out without listening to it, hoping to hear that hard charged fire from Risky Business.
This is truly one of their best and a must have for any TD fan.

Practically every emotion is touched by this music. I can't understand how people can express such emotion through music but I am truly blessed by having experienced it. I hope whoever stole this from my car can enjoy it as much as I did.
