5.0 out of 5 stars Some of the best Tangerine Dream songs ever + some others!
What a great, great 80's movie this is! This & Valley Girl were both incredible at capturing a mood, a moment in time of that era. Or perhaps it was just the fact that I was that age back then (graduating high school and first starting college).

As far as soundtracks go, this one is great! Sure there's a few notable exclusions (Bruce Springsteen's -...

3.0 out of 5 stars Right on target!!
It's fun, it's sexy, and it's right on target! Tom Cruz "cruzes" his way through an Academy Award-winning performance in the movie, while the soundtrack to "Risky Business" simply blows your mind!!

The classic songs are all here, to lend a hand to the classic movie: Phil Collins' "In the Air"; Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock and Roll"; (remember the hilarious portion of the...

What a great, great 80's movie this is! This & Valley Girl were both incredible at capturing a mood, a moment in time of that era. Or perhaps it was just the fact that I was that age back then (graduating high school and first starting college).

As far as soundtracks go, this one is great! Sure there's a few notable exclusions (Bruce Springsteen's - "Hungry Heart", The Talking Heads - "Swamp", and The Police's - "Every Breath You Take". Plus, Prince's - "DMSR" is a short version) but this disc is a great mix of rock songs and Tangerine Dream's awesome instrumental work.

Sure, many people may get this soundtrack just for Segar's "Old Time Rock and Roll", but that would be missing the point of the SOUND of the film. Phil Collins's "In the Air Tonight" and Jeff Beck's "Pump" are GREAT pieces of their work. Plus this version of Muddy Waters's - "Mannish Boy" is one of the best verions I've heard!

But the real treats of this soundtrack are the five incredible Tangerine Dream tracks (#2,3,4,5, & 11). These pieces are my absolute favorites by them (and they've done a TON of albums and movie soundtracks!). These 5 tracks create a mood and feel to the movie that really does enhance and make the film truly special! Just put on these five instrumental tracks and you'll instantly be taken back to those scenes of Joel Goodson making his future by saying "what the ----!

This is an import title and should be purchased while it is still available. I never have understood why it has never been available domestically.

Also if you really like the Tangerine Dream stuff on this soundtrack, check out the movie "Thief" with James Cann and then you'll be craving their full soundtrack to that movie! GREAT STUFF!!!

If it wasn't for Tangerine Dream, Katy Holmes would be looking for a husband and a baby. One of the most incredible soundtrack
bands ever. Tom would be selling underwear at this time, instead of dancing in them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where is music like this anymore?, November 16, 2008

Just cant find this stuff these days. I really only bought this for the TANGERINE DREAM songs. But the vocalizations are good too. I just missed the instrumentals. Quite heart pounding, as my memory told me, and it didnt lie.

Good for mellowing out, sparking a fire with a loved one, or just dancing around in your underwear (now, would we do that? :D)

A rare collection of Tangerine Dream music. Unlike "Vision Quest", the Tangerine dream music is included.

It's fun, it's sexy, and it's right on target! Tom Cruz "cruzes" his way through an Academy Award-winning performance in the movie, while the soundtrack to "Risky Business" simply blows your mind!!

The classic songs are all here, to lend a hand to the classic movie: Phil Collins' "In the Air"; Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock and Roll"; (remember the hilarious portion of the movie when Tom Cruz is caught dancing around in his underwear? I was laughing for days!!)

Nonetheless, this soundtrack captures both the hilarious AND the mystic vibe that the movie portrayed, like the sizzling scene in the subway between Cruz and Rebecca D. (Ooh la la!!)

Well, excuse my rambling, but this masterpiece soundtrack of the 80s is simply too good to pass up. Get it and relive those days when you too could've got into an Ivy League school, yet squandered it all away for one night of partying and a gorgeous hooker...

JUST TAKE THOSE OLD RECORDS OFF THE SHELF!!.............

3.0 out of 5 stars Business as Usual, November 27, 2008
This review is from: Risky Business (1983 Film) (Audio CD)
The formula was set with the success of a number of movie soundtracks in the 1970s; use a variety of hit songs from FM radio superstars, somehow wedge portions of the tracks into the movie and hopefully have a cross-promotional monster through little time or effort.

With Bob Seger, Prince, Journey and Phil Collins in the mix (along with Jeff Beck and Muddy Waters), this is a great example of the successful formula used by the entertainment industry. What makes the soundtrack a slight cut above the rest, though, is the five tracks from Tangerine Dream, which total nearly 18 minutes of the 45:42.

But it isn't as if Edgar Froese, Christopher Franke and Johannes Schmoelling toiled in the studio while battling a strict deadline; the music is mostly from previously-released compositions that were retitled to fit scenes in the movie. Though the band released a number of soundtracks during the decade, this was the best venue to reach an audience that actually was in the forefront of the pop culture movement.

The concept was business as usual, but TD at least makes the album a little more interesting through its electronica magic.

The best track on here is Muddy Waters' "I'm A Man". Otherwise, the Tangerine Dream music is just okay. This is a hard soundtrack to find; I had a hard time finding it when the movie was first released!
