This was a long process for zero results.

To my surprise (like a magic), the white flowers recovered its clean white color and I could not notice any change in the black and brown color.

I used the method for severe stains, whick involves simmering the Rit on the stove.

I first tried White Wash at the suggestion of a friend who worked as a costumier for a ballet. I had turned a load of whites pink, in the usual hidden red sock manner. After two washings in the White Wash, there was no trace of pink anywhere. Since then, to keep my whites bright, I run them through a load of White Wash once per season. My mom and dad (who are almost ritualistic about their laundry) couldn't believe how bright my whites are and demanded to know my secret!

Accidentally, i washed a load of light color cloth with a red T-shirt. all the white clothes including one of my favorite top (black background with brown and white flowers). The white clean flowers become pinkish, which made me feel so bad.

I searched online and found that this might be a solution. I ordered four boxes.

Even though the instruction says that it should not be used on color clothes, I took the risk and tried my luck--I just though if the white color does not come back, I won't wear the pinkish clothes anyway. It would not be worse if the black and brown were lighter or gone. So I heated some water on the stove, add the powder and detergent, add my clothes in, stired. To my surprise (like a magic), the white flowers recovered its clean white color and I could not notice any change in the black and brown color. I am so happy that I got back my favorite top.

I also recovered many other light color clothes I ruined before, including some pure white, khaki, and some white with color prints. All worked out very well, except for that the blue colar of my son's T-shirt changed its color to some rather ugly gray-blue color.

For sure, to recover white color, it is the best. If the white is mixed with other colors, it may depend.

I did them all on the stove (water in pot). I did several small pieces together every time, changed water, started with fresh powder and detergent for another bunch. For my whole medium size load ruined clothes, I only used up one box.

Highly recommend this product!

This product works great to whiten older garments and it also will remove (color) stains on white garments that will not come out with other means.

I carefully researched - on Rit's website - the directions for using this product with a front-loading washing machine. Then I followed those instructions today to use this product on a load of white cotton knit shirts that I thought could use a bit of brightening up.

First, this stuff stinks. The package, and Rit's instructions, warn not to breathe the powder and to wear rubber gloves when using it. The front-loader washing machine instructions require the user to completely dissolve the powder in a quart of very hot tap water. Which is hard to do because some clumps just wouldn't dissolve. Then you have to pour the mixture into the detergent dispenser. And follow with another quart of hot tap water. Then run the load with hot water for a good long wash cycle.

I did all that, and the result was -- a dud. My shirts didn't look better than before. Maybe I take good enough care of them that they weren't really very dingy. But whatever, I wasted money and time using this stuff. Worse yet, my shirts didn't smell very good when they came out of the washer after their Rit treatment.

So after I'd run a load of white towels with hot water, detergent and a ton of bleach - which you have to do AFTER you use this stuff on a load of clothes, to clean out the washer - I washed those shirts again, adding OxiClean to my detergent. My shirts came out smelling nice and I think looking a bit brighter.

I'm sticking with OxiClean in the future. This Rit stuff was a bust.

I wanted to use this instead of bleach. I was worried it was just strong detergent. It actually removes most dye. Use the driver method. It works much better.

I live in New York City and have an off-white slipcovered sofa and two small dogs. I read about this product on ApartmentTherapy.com buried in an article by another person who loves the look of light colored furniture. I tried it and have been hooked ever since. I cannot wash the slipcovers in hot water and bleach is out of the question - so this little product has been a gem in getting out the black, grimy dirt that gets ground into the fabric and that normal washing just doesn't get out. I have noticed a huge difference when I've skipped using this product and just done normal washing, which is why I am ordering it again. I have started using it on all other white or nearly white laundry items (like towels, sheets) -- and, yes, I have used other products like Oxiclean and use expensive, name brand detergents.

This fixed my white eyelet sundress that a well meaning person in my home washed with bright red undies. I tried EVERYTHING and used this as a last resort - it will be my go to product if it happens again! I think I'll get some to keep on hand, just in case. Thank you, Rit! :)

*Although the product says to rinse and dry as normal, I gave my dress one more washing. It possibly has a yellow tinge after the treatment (it was really difficult to tell) but running it though the washer took care of that - my eyes may have been playing tricks on me though! :)
