Product Description

The Ritchey 5nm Torque Key provides a quick and affordable way to ensure that the correct torque is applied to your Ritchey carbon bar and WCS stem combination. This wrench is preset to 5NM. Fortunately, though, there are a plethora of other bicycle components that require a torque spec of 5NM, so it's a very useful tool for those of us who don't own Ritchey components, too. The Ritchey 5nm Torque Key includes 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, and T20 bits, and weighs in around 53 grams.

Great little tool!

Handy little bike tool that makes handlebar, stem, seat post, etc. adjustments much faster and easier than pulling out and using the beam torque wrench (or guessing).

Handy little bike tool that makes handlebar, stem, seat post, etc. adjustments much faster and easier than pulling out and using the beam torque wrench (or guessing). Allows for quick adjustments regardless of what position your bike is in since you can feel and hear the 5Nm setting 'pop'. I used it to quickly assemble, adjust and re-tweak adjustments on a new alloy mountain bike and then, since I was on a roll, I checked over our carbon road bikes and found several bolts that were looser than they should have been. I do agree with another reviewer that the wrench is a little awkward to hold and twist in certain positions, possibly due to the twirl knob on the top, but it still rates 5 Stars IMO.

Note: Be sure to get this model with the four removable bits since Ritchey has a similar 5Nm model, for almost the same price, but with a non-removable M4 bit.

When tightening it feels like more than 5nm so I checked it with a "proper" torque wrench, and it clicks over at about 5.7nm so that's pretty close. It still makes me nervous that I'm going to over tighten the bolts or screws. When using it after having it sit for a while (a week or so?) it feels like it "sets in" and doesn't click over where it should. I've put a screw into the wall that I use to click it over a few times before using it on the fastener I want to tighten. Seems to work more accurately that way.

After purchasing my first ever all carbon Cervelo R3 road bike, I was having a heck of a time adjusting the saddle height without it slipping because I didn't want to over tighten the seatpost clamp. Although I was able to find the correct bike fit, the seatpost caused creaking in any movement of the frame. The creak was partly caused by the local bike shop not using any carbon fiber assembly paste/gel. But at the same time, I was super nervous about tightening the seatpost clamp which Cervelo recommended between 4Nm and 5Nm of torque. This hand little tool eased my fears and worked perfectly. The handle is a little small, but this is probably needed to be able to fit around the saddle angles. Between this and the Finish Line. Fiber Grip Gel, my bike is now creak free.

Holy cow is this a handy little device! It works great and I use it all the time for my seatposts and saddle clamps. It’s also nice for handlebars. Because of the Ritchey TorqKey I have yet to have need for an expensive torque wrench. Some people complain that they can’t get a good grip with this device but I haven’t had that issue at all. You will need to tighten things quite a bit before that click kicks in. When I first got the tool I thought mine was broken because I’d never hear the click. I had to have a bike mechanic demonstrate it for me and that’s when I realized I just hadn’t been doing it hard enough.

Torque spec is way off on the one I have.... will attempt to have it replaced. I was wondering why my seatpost clamp kept slipping even though the torque is suppose to be 45 inch pounds or 5.1 NM. I checked the final torque after using it with a "real" variable torque wrench and it was about 15 inch pounds off (apprx 30ish). The bolt turned about 3/4's of a revolution with the accurate torque wrench after the TorqKey released on it's setting.

Works great! I used my Venzo torque wrench first at 5nm. Then then I checked the Ritchey Key against it for accuracy.
It seemed to be spot on. I heard that if you haven't used a torque wrench in a while you should test it before using it on the part that needs torqued.... so that what I did. The first time it seemed very hard to turn, second time was a lot easier and consistent after that.

Now leaving my BBB adjustable torque wrench at home when I travel. Although the Richey is preset for 5 Nm and isn't as versatile as my bigger, heavier wrench, I can tighten my seat post, rear derailleur and handlebars with confidence when I am travelling with my bike. Heck, it is even light enough that I ride with the wrench on the first test ride after reassembly my bike. A great find on the 'net. Fast shipping too!

This puppy works perfectly to set the bolts on my Specialized Roubaix handlebars. Like the ability to use different bits.
