4.0 out of 5 stars Works weel enough
I put these in my truck box, just for some light if I need to get into it at night. Don't fool yourself and think that these will have the light output of a couple of headlights. They aren't that bright, but they give plenty of light for rummaging around in the bed of a truck. I installed 2 of them, and have the 3rd for something else, just not sure what yet.

My wife laughed at me:"Why would you want a light that comes on when there's light?"

I was wondering how it didn't just stay on after the door was closed, once it created it's own 'ambient light'.

These do work, and in some situations may be just what you need. But I found the ambient light required is too high for most situations. For example, in my spice cabinet, the kitchen lights have to be blazing before this puck lite comes on inside the cabinet. I've moved it around and re-aimed the sensor, but it just requires too much light to be effective.

As to the second question, you can create enough reflection in a tight space, such as a drawer, to have the light sensor keep itself on. But that's not usually the problem.

Bottom line: in most cases this application would be better served by a motion detector, rather than an ambient light detector.

Rite-Lite does make small magnetic switch lites that work very well Rite Lite LPL632 Drawer Light, and are perfect for cabinet drawers.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 LED Puck Light handy for small dark closet, December 16, 2008

Good brightness like a bright flashlight but with a wide dispersed beam. I attached one to the inside of a closet door so light shines in when I open door. Sensor does not always turn on the light so I decided to use in manual mode. Attaches with either velcrow or a like a picture frame on a small screw

2.0 out of 5 stars Light sensing, not so much..., February 11, 2010

I bought these to go inside a closet, thinking that when the door is open, they will come on. Not so much. Mounted in a useful position, openeing the closet did not provide enough light (even on the low-light setting) to turn these on. So I moved it right up to the front of the closet. Well, that worked... however when you close the closet, the light reflecting off the door is enough to keep the stupid thing on, so it wouldn't turn off. I wound up turning off the light sensor and just using it as a tap light. Maybe my closet and lighting is unique, but I doubt it.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, January 24, 2010

Just - "OK". Not extremely bright, fairly flimsy construction, light sensor is somewhat superfluous. Requires relatively bright ambient light, and if I had that much light I wouldn't need the Puck Light. You can still push on and off; dim setting is not needed and just an extra step to turn off. 3 stars is fair.

3.0 out of 5 stars Need light to turn on the auto light, September 20, 2011
So, this wasn't clear to me before I bought this, but you need light to turn on the light automatically. That's kind of stupid. If I already had a light, why would I need to buy this? I purchased this to automatically turn on when I open my closets. The problem is, the "ambient light" required to activate the sensor is only satisfied by a bright light, not dim hallway lights or sunlight. If you're purchasing this so you DON'T have to turn on your bright light or because you don't have a bright light, then this is not the product for you. I'd suggest a motion detector light. I bought SE Wireless Motion Sensor Light - 10 Super-Bright LED for my closets to replace these and they are working quite well AND are cheaper.

Other than that, this is a great product, they just shouldn't sell it with an auto-sensor. It is much brighter than other push on lights I've had and the swivel feature is nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clever Concept for Closets, June 22, 2009
These lights work great in areas where you are constantly opening and closing a door. We have them in our bedroom closets. My husband even had the idea to put one under the kitchen sink where we keep a lot of checmicals. It seems we always needed to locate a flashlight to see what we were grabbing for. Not anymore now that we've put the puck light underneath the sink...now we can see exactly what we need! What's so great great about these lights is that you do not have to use the light sensor feature. The lights have a switch along the side which gives you the option for manual operation. Great buy for the price! They give off more light than a flashlight with the ease of being mounted!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Closets!, June 11, 2009
I love these lights! I put them in each one of the closets in my house and they work great because they turn on automatically when we open the closet doors! Don't get me wrong...they are not exactly bright enough to light an entire room but they are perfect for finding shoes and clothes in the closet! We bought a second 3 pack and put one in the pantry and one at the top of the basement. Great buy!

Were looking for something to light a wood sculpture and the light is perfect for the task. Since it was a three pack, used the other two under the cabinets in the kitchen. Perfect again!

thanks.......

I bought this product to put in a closet we just recently built in our home. The area is fairly well lit but I wanted a little more light so I thought I would try these lights. I decided to go with the ones with the sensor since there would usually be some light coming in and that feature works great. We open the closet and these lights automatically come on and light up the closet.
