4.0 out of 5 stars Hands down the best
This is the best pen in the Rite in the Rain line-up.

Sized write for everyday carry and use, it is standard length and width - not all their pens are. I have carried and used these for years and only two have had to be replaced: one I lost and the other I left in my shirt and it went through the washer. It came out of the washer looking brand new, but...

2.0 out of 5 stars GREAT PEN UNTIL. . .
I've had my "Rite in the Rain" pen for about 6 months now. Mine has "come loose". That is the metal case has a plastic liner, with plastic threads, and my metal shell came loose from the plastic threads that are in both ends of the pen. I had to superglue the plastic in to the metal case, the result is when I click open the pen, I now have only about 1/16th of an inch...

This is the best pen in the Rite in the Rain line-up.

Sized write for everyday carry and use, it is standard length and width - not all their pens are. I have carried and used these for years and only two have had to be replaced: one I lost and the other I left in my shirt and it went through the washer. It came out of the washer looking brand new, but never worked again. These pens work flawlessly at temps down to -40 (I live in AK) without having to worry about the ink freezing or gelling. They also work in temps over 120 (Middle East) without fail. Their ability to write upside down may seem like a gimmick but how many times have you been writing something with a wall as your desk and been frustrated that your pen won't work? The ink will not drain away from the point with this pen. The ink cartridges last and last but make sure you know where you'll get replacements, they are not carried as readily as other ink refill cartridges.

5.0 out of 5 stars This pen is mighter than that sword, November 17, 2008
This review is from: "Rite in the Rain" Weatherproof Tactical Clicker Pen - Black Ink (97) (Office Product)
This pen lives up to the hype; I love it. I've been doing field work for over 10 years and have had all sorts of stuff fall apart on me. I've used Rite in the Rain field books for years, but went through tons of pens that fell apart or died when a drop of rain or a snow flake fell. I used their other half plastic/half metal pen and it was great until the plastic part broke making the pen junk. This pen is the last pen you'll ever need. It's all metal so it will hold up to field abuses. If you don't like a clicker pen, Rite in the Rain also has capped bullet pens. Check out all their stuff at www.riteintherain.com

5.0 out of 5 stars awsome pen!, January 3, 2011

This pen is awesome... I work outdoors and subsequently sweat quite a bit. My notepads always get wet and that doesnt affect writing on them with this pen. I have always had problems writing on damp paper with other pens but not this one. Well worth the money. I gave this pen as a gift to my friend, he is very happy with it as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars nice pen...but just get zebra, March 24, 2009
This review is from: "Rite in the Rain" Weatherproof Tactical Clicker Pen - Black Ink (97) (Office Product)
These pens are nice, but you can get one just as good for much less. The zebra pen line works just as well and you can get them at any office supply store. The zebra pens even work in the water with the rite in the rain pads.

I took the Rite in the Rain pads and pen on a birding trip to the Amazon rainforest of Ecuador. I don't think there could be a tougher test for these pads and pen anywhere. They held up beautifully and I was able to record my bird sightings in all weather. Awesome products!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, March 23, 2010

As a police officer I find myself writing in all weather conditions and the Rite in the Rain products never fail me. There's nothing worse than handing a form to a citizen to fill out on a damp or rainy day and then finding that half the form has become illegible due to ink fade by the end of the shift or worse, the citizen can't fill it out because the pen quits working.

It's much more convenient to have the person fill the form out wherever they may be, even if that means using a car window for their desk. The alternative is to do a pat down (even if they are just a witness) and put them in the patrol car to complete the paperwork. No thanks.

I've taken to running off some of our more common forms on the Rite in the Rain copier paper specifically for bad weather days. My fellow officers razz me about spending my own money for paper when they get theirs for free but the joke's on them when I clear rainy calls much sooner because I have all of my forms intact and legible. I also spend far less time drying out my paperwork before putting it in the captain's mailbox.

You can't go wrong with any of their products. I agree with the other commenter that you'll want to make sure you know where you can get refills, they're not always easy to find. I can get about a year from each refill but your mileage will obviously vary based on how much you write.

As advertised, this pen writes upside-down and when wet. The metal exterior survives a lot of abuse, but the interior clicker mechanism has become gunked up and prone to jamming. I have not been able to find a good way to clean it. Note: I don't use my weatherproof pen for diving or anything with salt water, so it's not a problem with corrosion.

I camp in an area with a lot of sand in the soil. Normally, I'd go through a pen a day journaling because the sand binds up their mechanism. I've had to get this pen started once or twice, but it has been going strong for a couple weeks now with no signs of real problems.

This has got to be one of the best pens I have ever used. I work as a mechanic and my hands are almost always greasy. This pen will write notes on grease-smudged or damp paper with no problem. It is also very handy, especially for one-handed operation (no cap to remove). I have ordered several spares in case I lose it.

I have been using Rite in the Rain products for years. The pen and paper combo work great for anyone who does a lot of outdoor activities. It really does write when wet without smearing. The pen looks simple and cool. It can probably double as a tool or weapon in a pinch.
