Dub Artists of Rare True talent, December 30, 2007
This review is from: Rite to Silence (Audio CD)
In 1994 My british friends in LA introduced me to Ian Simmonds the Bass Player for, The Sandals. I had heard their one CD "Rite To Silence", the American release. It was a stunner.
They could not secure even a showcase gig in LA due to "Passport" problems.
However Ian said to get both the UK "Rite to Silence" and the much harder to find UK Dub Remix 52 min., "Cracked EP" to hear the full scope of what they were trying to do.
I'm glad I did. With a total of 2.5 hours of music between the three discs...this group was way ahead of their time and have hints of Massive Attack, Big Audio Dynamite, Bomb the Bass and a unique jazz tinged, flute inspired Acid Dub that was intoxicating.
All three discs only duplicate a handful of songs. Each release is solidly different but joyfully of the same tone.
Their musical well was endless, honest, soulful and funked out in an acid jazz way that has no equal.
Find all three CD's at any cost.
Timeless music with a true 5 star rating.
Thanks Ian.

Quasi unknown gem..., May 24, 2007
This review is from: Rite to Silence (Audio CD)
Difficult to categorize this quasi unknown gem...
Certainly way beyond your typical Acid-Jazz/Trip-Hop...
Too bad they only had this cd (+ the ep).
A *must* have.
