flawed but courageous,

This review is from: The Rite of Sodomy: Homosexuality and the Roman Catholic Church (Paperback)
This can be regarded as two books fused together in a somewhat inelegant way:
1. A discussion of the moral and theological decay in the Catholic Church as a result of the presence of unchaste homosexuals in the Curia, episcopate and clergy (this is what I thought I was buying). I appreciated the fact that she was willing to point the finger at "Franny" Spellman as well as the usual "spirit of Vatican II" weasels (John Wright, Bernardin, McCarrick, etc.) 2. A treatise on the decadence and dissolution created in American and Western European societies in general as a result of homosexual agitation. While Mrs. Engel may claim that she had to print and distribute this book herself because the content is so shocking and provocative, I think that her lack of a publisher is more likely a function of how large and unwieldly the text is. If she was willing to work with a good editor I think she could get two solid titles out of this through someone like Regnery, Angelus Press or Ignatius Press (I do think she is correct in her assumption that it wouldn't be touched by the New York houses or the academic imprints). A title limited to a discussion of the Curia and the bishops would provide an excellent alternative to Likoudis' 'Amchurch' mess. In my opinion, the rancor surrounding this issue would end if institutions in the Western world would go back to viewing homosexuality as a PERVERSION - no more, no less. As an activity performed in private by adults, it would not be the place of legislative bodies to demand criminal prosecution of those engaged in it any more than they should seek to penalize those who wish to have intercourse with vibrators, vinyl dolls, women's shoes, or sheep (you homosexual college professors and ACLU lawyers who want to see Islam crush Christianity because Christianity is the "white man's religion" better beware - if the 'mullahs' are in charge YOU WILL BE IN PRISON). HOWEVER - in turn for respecting your privacy, you must also respect the privacy of those who find your perversion objectionable for religious or public health reasons. This means you do not demand that the state declare your sodomy-every-day-for-a-year-or-so-then-forget-it living arrangement a "marriage". You do not publicly threaten businesses that do not wish to provide money to those who engage in the perversion with you. You do not demand a parade permit so you can perform the perversion in public. You do not go to school boards and demand that your perversion be discussed with six year olds when no society in human history has considered it wise to even discuss normal sexual activity with children that age. And you certainly do not demand that you not be prosecuted for performing that perversion with 13 year old boys. ALSO - while this perversion may not be a concern of civil law, it is most definitely a concern of canon law. And besides ecclesiastical punishment, I would hope there would be a place in the tenth circle of hell for a man who would enroll in a seminary in the belief that it would increase his opportunites for sodomy, and I hope there would be even a worse place for the soul of a seminary rector who recruits men with that goal. Godspeed, Randy Engel. I hope someday you get the readership you deserve.

unembellished truth - even the Chair of Peter has been compromised,

This review is from: The Rite of Sodomy: Homosexuality and the Roman Catholic Church (Paperback)
The compilation of historical and documentary evidence and personal interviews into this unassailable 1282-page magnum opus took the author nearly two full decades. Like St. Peter Damian's Book of Gomorrah (Letter 31)* is a worthy classic to us now, in the next millennium The Rite of Sodomy will be the classic tome that historians consult to understand the homosexual infiltration of the twentieth and twenty-first century Roman Catholic Church. Not content with generalizations, Randy Engel names names, the debauched prelates and priests, places, and events, each instance meticulously documented with the incontrovertible evidence in thousands of detailed endnotes.
The Rite of Sodomy chronicles the history of homosexual subcultures from ancient times through the infiltration of the Catholic hierarchy by the Lavender Mafia. This book recounts the effective measures used by St. Peter Damian, one of the 33 Doctors of the Church, and Pope Leo IX to overcome the first scourge of sodomite priests in the Church. Currently entrenched myths about homosexual subculture in ancient Greece and Rome are compellingly debunked. Though not a physician or mental health professional, the author effectively adduces the medical evidence against the "God made me this way" shibboleths that are essential in advancing the homosexual agenda. The guilty are named, as are the means they used to conquer even the Chair of Peter. An entire chapter is devoted to the evidence proving that Pope Paul VI was an active homosexual blackmailed into promulgating numerous modernist alterations in Catholic practice, deformities never ordered or envisioned by the Second Vatican Council. Such imposed alien aberrations include the impoverished Novus Ordo Mass authored de novo (notwithstanding false antiquarian claims by its proponents) by the Freemasonic mole Abp. Annibale Bugnini, so deficient in its theology that the Novus Ordo Mass is approved by Protestants and Freemasons alike. Engel recounts the history of Americanism and demonstrates how that heresy blended with Modernism, enabling the perverted infiltrators and corrupting the Church even today. The activities of all the usual suspects are thoroughly documented - Law, Wuerl, Bernadin, McCarrick, Weakland, Sparks, Ziemann, Wright, Williams, Weldon, "St. Sebastian's Angels," Ryan, Gramick, Nugent, Schexnayder, Cummins, Mugavero, Lynch, Mahony, Spellman, O'Connell, Ferrario, and too many more to mention here. This book leaves no stone unturned in exposing the satanic vermin destroying lives, souls, and Holy Mother Church. Shortly before penning this review another piece of the puzzle arrived, the 2007 revelation of the Soviet KGB "Seat 12" covert operation to infiltrate and corrupt Judeo-Bolshevism's arch enemy, the only real moral authority in the world, the only Church Jesus founded, the Roman Catholic Church. I thought this book would be exclusively about the problem of homosexuality in the Catholic Church. In fact, it's much, much more. Did you ever hear of the Cambridge Spy Ring? If not, this chapter will shock you. Did you know about the 19th-century American bishops' disdain for Rome? I did not, before reading this book. I'm now only about halfway through it yet couldn't be more impressed!

This review is from: The Rite of Sodomy: Homosexuality and the Roman Catholic Church (Paperback)
This work is the usual cant in which rumor mongers trade. Better to have someone write a treatise on the question of Apostolic succession in the Roman Church. The absence of it (as we see evinced by the problem of the Great Western Schism) is a far greater scandal than which clerical willy is in which clerical bungy. Was Paul VI gay? More important, was he even the legitimate successor of the Lord Christ? Or did the Roman line of succession in fact break down; and is the claim of the Eastern Orthodox descendancy from Andrew, Peter's Brother and the "first-called" by Christ, the more believable claim to be the successor to the Christ Jesus? Figure that one out first and let those who seek to ply other sexual dalliances than most on their merry, if not peculiar, way.

This is a self published book of paranoia literature. Infiltration of the Church by a homosexual cabal? Check. The Masons secretly behind it all? Check. Rabid anti Vatican II rantings? Check. Wild allegations against a whole lot of people? Check. I'm tempted to give this book 5 stars based on it's being "so bad it's good" and on it's being a pretty good example of paranoid rantings. I'm going for the one star, though because well... it's actually pretty terrible and isn't so much about homosexuality or the church as much as it's about madness (on the part of the author).
