Big ol' cable,

This review is from: RiteAV VGA Cable with 3.5mm Audio - 15 Ft. (Electronics)
I can't remember the last time I saw a VGA cable as thick as this one; this is a big ol' sucker. It's built solid and tough, complete with ferrites on each end and screw-down connectors (and I would highly recommend that you screw it onto to your HDTV's connector due to its weight).
Some reviewers said the audio cable didn't reach the output port on their laptops. They must have humongous laptops; I have a 15.4" Toshiba Satellite, and there is no problem connecting both the VGA and audio output ports (the VGA output is located on the left side toward the rear, and the audio output is located just slightly right of center in the front), and it would easily connect if the two ports were on opposite corners. Another reviewer said that if your laptop didn't have a VGA port with screw-down capability, the cable was too heavy and would disconnect itself. My laptop does not have screw-down ability, but I have not had any problem with the cable disconnecting. This is a very high-quality cable at a very reasonable price, and 15ft is plenty long enough for most applications (easily extends from the TV to the bed or sofa).

Good cable but not for VGA ports without screws,

The cable is of very good quality though a little bulky. I had no problems connecting the audio and my computer doesnt have the 2 ports next to each other.
However, if your VGA port doesnt have screws to fasten the cable it is going to be very difficult to hold this in. The head of the cable is pretty bulky and heavy and without screw terminals, it falls off very easily.

This is a well-made cable that includes ferrites on both ends to prevent interference (only one of the included pictures actually shows them). A previous reviewer mentioned the ends being a bit heavy, but anyone who's used a VGA cable in the past won't be surprised because it's no different than all the rest. I use it for a 1080P image on my 40" LCD. The signal is perfect with no apparent losses from the laptop despite the length, but I'll admit to being skeptical before ordering. The 2 ft audio cable is plenty long to reach the other side of a laptop if needed. This definitely beats overpaying and getting much less at a major retailer.

I use this to connect a Dell laptop to a 42 inch 1080p Panasonic plasma. The picture quality is great. The fact that it is a single cable for the length of the run gives it a neat appearence. The cable for the mini jack allows enough room for it to reach the headphone jack and the video output on my laptop even though they are not on the same side of the laptop. The cable for the mini jack comes out of the connector. The cable has a good quality feel to it.

I purchased this hoping to bypass the need for a netflix streaming device and it works. I hooked it up to a Panasonic t46g10 plasma. this is what I found after much experimentation using Windows xp and a dell computer.
1. hook up the monitor to both the vga video output on the cpu and then to the tv first. 2. turn on the computer. It should automatically recognize the secondary monitor. 3. Go to display in Control Panel. Click on 'settings'. Note the 'apply settings to this monitor.' Check box after highlighting the 2nd monitor option. Then check 'use this monitor as primary.' 4. Test whether monitor has been recognized by going to a website[ I used yahoo] and click on any video. The video should start streaming to the tv. The sound should be audible on your pc speakers. 5. The video settings for both computer monitor and tv should be the same. 6. The mouse should display its function on the tv as it would on the computer monitor. You should therefore be able to access favorites or for that matter type 'netflix' in the search field. Then it is a simple matter of highlighting whatever movie you want.

Pros and Cons-not the best,

Pros:
1. Good price 2. Has video+audio in one cable Cons: 1. Doesn't identify my Sony HD TV - Yes, a lot of people may not know this. I had another VGA cable that I bought from Frys, and everytime I use that my laptop without fail would know I'm connected to Sony HD TV and then I could according set resolution from my laptop. The moment I switched to this "RiteAV VGA Cable with 3.5mm Audio - 15 Ft." from amazon, all I see on my laptop is "analog output". My old one from Frys is quite light and though it doesn't have an audio cable, works great. 2. It is listed on product description that the differenc between VGA and 3.5mm audio is 24 inches, that is not true, as also mentioned by other reveiwers. It's apprx 10 inches, and while it's ok to hook up both VGA/audio on the TV, on laptop you can't reach both VGA and audio. At least not on mine, and I don't have a big laptop. On a seperate note: I want to return it. Got this from CE Compass, and they charge 15% restocking fee + return shipping is out of buyer's pocket. Will see how much return shipping will cost, and if the effort/refund is worth returning it.

It stays in place just fine on my laptop, using a screwless vga port, HOWEVER, my TV has a VGA port with screw holes, and this will not screw into them. And since the vga port is facing downward on the back of the tv, the HEAVY cord keeps pulling it out. That really sucks, because the picture and sound are both great from this cable.

Sound does not work,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: RiteAV VGA Cable with 3.5mm Audio - 15 Ft. (Electronics)
Sound does not work, because the audio cable is too short. I bought this so that it would reach from the vga connection (left back side of the labtop) to the audio out (right front side). At a length of only 10 1/2 inches, it does not even come close to reaching across. I now have to go out and buy an extention...

I bought this to hook my HDTV to my computer to watch Netflix movies streamed to my TV. It took me less than five minutes to hook up, and the picture and sound quality were much better than I expected. It was like watching a DVD on my TV. Unlike many of the reviewers, I didn't have problems with diminished picture quality on my computer.

Absolutely worthless -- product description is a lie,

The audio cable is less than a foot long (not the 24" quoted in the description), which means the product is worthless for any laptop computer. Virtually all laptops and notebooks have the vga out on the back or side, and the audio out on the front. This cable has such a short audio length that it only works on systems where the VGA and audio out are right next to each other (such as the back of most desktop computers).
If you have a desktop computer, I suppose this might work. And judging by some of the positive reviews, this product must once have had a proper audio cable length. But AS OF THIS WRITING, this product absolutely cannot be used on any currently manufactured notebook or laptop computer of any kind, and is therefore worthless for most people. Shame on Amazon for selling this, especially with a lie in the description. |
