5.0 out of 5 stars "This book is excellent! Long overdue, yet right on time!"
"This book is Excellent! Long overdue, yet right on time! Considering approximately 87% of the blacks in America are of Yoruba descent. This book could only have been written by an American black woman like yourself who has the experience and knowledge of our culture, traditions and heritage. It is the first book that I have read of this type that is not...

2.0 out of 5 stars A psychological book!
I am very disappointed with this book, because, according to the information given by my fellow citizen Paulo Meira de Vasconcelos, the book would offer deep visions of the Cult of Yia-Mogun or Yia-Mi Osoronga. And it is not that that happens, a lot for the I thwart, superficial indications are just pointed in the book. It is not a book for people that look for a real...

This book could only have been written by an American black woman like yourself who has the experience and knowledge of our culture, traditions and heritage. It is the first book that I have read of this type that is not patronizing black women. A must read for all African-American black women and men! Adupe Pupo! Chief Olugbala Songobunmi."

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read book, February 15, 2007
This review is from: Rites of Passage: Psychology of Female Power : A Manual for Young African-American Women, Medicine Women, Priestesses and More Mature Women of spirit (Paperback)
I have this book for over a year now and had plenty of time to read and reread it and it keeps getting better. It has much valuable information for those interested in woman spiritual powers - and this kind of information is hard enough to find.

I enjoy reading mainly Part 4, about Gelede and the spiritual powers of the Great Mothers; this part alone stands for the whole book, it is enlightning.

I had the opportunity to read this book and my wife read it shortly thereafter. It's an excellent discourse and I recommend that couples as well as women and girls alone read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars "A wonderful book with a deep and rare content.", June 16, 2000
This review is from: Rites of Passage: Psychology of Female Power : A Manual for Young African-American Women, Medicine Women, Priestesses and More Mature Women of spirit (Paperback)
The struggle between male and female society is a true concept of men's physical power against women's inherent universal power. Congratulation for the author's perspective and her teachings. Our great mother Iyami Eleye Osoronga should never be put aside. If the author wishes this book to be published in Brasil, to my understanding a very good idea, I will be at your entire disposal.

It is not a book for people that look for a real knowledge in the Cult of the Mothers... Unhappily, it was used as reference, greetings to the Mothers, done in Bahia, when invocations and Prayers traditional, still used by true priests and Priestesses, that know the Real value of Yia-Mogun they could be mentioned in your totality, without there was a secret break! Now, of the psychological and social point of view, he is really very good.
