This review is from: Ritual Fiction (Audio CD)
Twilight Archive is a group of remarkable musicians. The idea inspirers of this project are Chris Mancinelli (bass, drums, percussives, pianos, synthesizers, samplers, programming, hi-hat) and Tom Vedvik (keyboards, sampling, sonic textures, bass). Two artists joined them on their "Ritual Fiction" album. These are John Fumo (trumpets and flugelhorn) and Alex Machacek (guitars). The group masterfully combines nu jazz grooves with a down-tempo ambient environment.
One can hear the firm electronic sounds of Tom Vedvik. His participation recalls the other projects of this talented artist. I'd like to mention "Slowdiver" and "Sutra Spin" albums above all. And on the other hand the sound of the new Twilight Arvhive's album is very particular. Its music is pierced by the grooves of huge megapolises in which you can completely lose yourself. "Ritual Fiction" is the music of a lone person surviving in a hectic city. It builds up the images of night motor highways and shining showcases among the dark cases of sleeping houses. And at the same time the newest Twilight Archive's album provokes the listener's inspiration. This is a truly outstanding project of beyond the borders cosmopolitan music. Serge Kozlovsky [...] |
