5.0 out of 5 stars Gilmore with an 'e' NOT PINK FLOYD
I didn't buy it yet, but some of the reviewers and definitely the store - has it all wrong. David Gilmore with an 'E' has nothing to do with David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, other than they both play the guitar. Give the guy a break. David - love your solo on Christian's Aja. Will purchase this, sight unseen.

So really, Amazon should take our advice and take a good job of making these two musician distinct on their search engine.

But so what? is it a good reason to punish him with just one star?
So here comes jdmusicLover at the rescue of the poor to put some balance. (I would have given just for stars otherwise, because I don't like every song on this CD)

In fact I came on this album by searching about Rick Wright...
I'm a pink floyd fan, but I've also seen David Gilmore (the here jazz guitarist) on stage at a Trilok Gurtu concert and found he is certainly an extraordinary musician.

By listening to the samples, number 8 Wanderer is my prefered...
A very original album, with much feeling and swing.
Don't know if I'm going to buy this CD... I might... because apart of Pink Floyd I'm also into prog rock, classical influences, and modern jazz.

But certainly not an ideal album for the average Pink Floyd fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars groundbreaking, July 13, 2010

First and foremost, the amazing Afro-American jazz guitarist (b. 1964) here should not be confused with the English prog rock guitarist David Gilmour -- their names being not even homophonous and are spelled differently. He honed his craft while playing with jazz greats like Wayne Shorter, Don Byron, Steve Coleman, Cassandra Wilson, and Christian McBride. This self-produced debut, recorded April 16, 18 of 2000, can easily rank among the last decade's breakthrough albums in its category for several reasons: intelligent compositions, propulsive groove dynamism and exemplary band interaction, fine balance between full awareness of the tradition and creative modernity, intriguing odd metre rhythms, so forth.

The core quartet also includes the remarkable George Colligan on piano (#1-2, 4, 6-7), fender rhodes (#3, 8, 11) and hammond organ (#9), drummer Rodney Holmes (solo #4, 11), who exchanges seat w/ the equally capable Bruce Cox (#1-2, 6, 8), and Brad Jones on double bass (solo #7, 11). We also have top notch guest musicians like Ravi Coltrane on soprano (#1, 8) and tenor (#6, 9) saxophones, David Binney on alto sax (#2, 6, 9), both of whom are joined by trumpeter Ralph Alessi to form a septet with horn section for an original rendition of T. Monk's #6 'off minor'.
Standout offerings are mostly those of the hard-driving, gritty mould, such as the title song (#1), 'paradigm shift' and 'event horizon' (#3-4), plus the concluding track #11 'uncertainty principle'. Also to be included here is the only ballad on the disc, called #8 'the wanderer'.
In addition, human vocal is featured on the exotic 'confluence', with Imani Uzuri singing her own lyrics supported by Gilmore's challenging chord-melody playing on nylon-string guitar. Steel-string acoustic guitar is audible on #2 'kaizen' and #10 'musical revolution', a song which finds Shariff Simmons recite one of his 'poems' couched in the African-esquely percussive orchestration. Running time: 71.13 min. Heartily recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Floyd? C'mon!, September 21, 2008

This "controversy" is reminiscent of political niggling, probably because this is an election year. The search engine likely posits that some of us aren't certain of spelling.
Enough!
This is great jazz, which one cannot say of Pink Floyd.
If you got it by accident, perhaps the "invisible hand" is giving you a much-needed nudge in a new, and richly varied, direction...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great compositions and amazing musicianship, April 29, 2008
This review is from: Ritualism (Audio CD)
Mr Gilmore really shines here. He seems to have matured a lot since the "Lost Tribe" times (where he played with fellow great Adam Rogers ... what a band!). He seems to have some preference for odd-time signatures, and very modern angular melodies. The compositions are very interesting and captivating.

All the musician in the album are great, this is one of the best albums I've heard in a long time.

Thanks mr Gilmore.

I was lucky to have gotten to know David when he entered my College as freshmen. Watching him develop and play through the years has been most rewarding. My first early careerwise, impressions were of of a very complex and gifted musician waiting to find fertile ground in which to plant and grow. Things have come to fruition here on this CD!! Having seen him play with a variety of musicians, this CD really sounds all David and it keeps you wanting more. Catching him live before hearing this cd and then hearing it, were one in the same - except with the cd I can listen again and again, and digest what my ear and head have missed the first, second or third time around. True Fans will buy this and wait, baited, for more of his true expression of creativity and genius. Catch him live!! Catch him live!!!

Don't make the mistake I did and think that this is the same Daivid Gilmour from Pink Floyd-- it's not the same person! Take note of the spelling of the last name.

I can't believe that amazon.com would associate this albumn with other albumns of David Gilmour. Shame on you amazon.com! The only reason I purchased this albumn was because you guys "associated" it with other albums of David Gilmour from Pink Floyd. Very bad indeed. Where do I get my money back!
