4.0 out of 5 stars Good Machine
My family had a great time using this machine. It took some practice and patience but in time we were making small cones. This machine is not professional so you will not get the same large cones you get at a carnival or Disneyland, but it does the job. I would compare it to an Easy Bake Oven. It's a good way for parents and kids to have some fun making cotton candy...

I purchased the Rival Cotton Candy Maker as a Christmas gift for my kids. The first time I tried using it, the disc in the center got too hot and spewed plastic around (the center spins). We were just in the "warming up" stage; hadn't even got to put sugar in it yet! I emailed RIVAL and they did not return a message. I called the Customer Service number, was on hold for 13 minutes, and was told to mail the product to them at my expense and a check for $7 for them to return a new one to me. They tell me that is my ONLY option otherwise keep it.

This machine is not worth it's money at all. It only makes a very little cotton candy which takes forever to even get that. It wants to clump up around the inside. My 5 year old was so disappointed. It was a Christmas gift. Don't buy this machine.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Dissapointed, January 3, 2004

I ordered the Rival Cotton Candy maker for a Christmas present for my daughter. It really is a piece of junk. My daughter likes the way the cotton candy tastes, but it is quite a lot of work for a few bites of cotton candy. We had to clean it after about two cones because the sides got all sticky. Of course we had to wait until it cooled down to clean it, and it just wasn't worth it. I went out and purchased the pink old fashioned cotton candy maker and it was about the same. I guess they need a bit longer to perfect it...I'm sending them both back.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed..., December 27, 2003

I was very disappointed with the Rival Cotton Candy maker. It holds only a tablespoon and a half of sugar which produces very small cones. You then have to shut it off, fill it up again and start over. It took around 10 minutes to make three cones for my children. The machine gets very hot which cause the sugar to burn and accumulate in big chunks on the sides of the machine. Not much fun at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Read the instructions, December 27, 2004
This review is from: Rival CC100 Cotton Candy Maker (Kitchen)
I reciently recieved this from my parents as a gift for christmas and at first i was very disapointed. All I could seem to make is about half a cup of cotton candy. I read the instructions over again and again and found some things I did not see the first time. I just wanted to tell you all to read the instructions. First of all, yes it is quite a bit of work to clean up but, hey, it's dealing with melted sugar. It's a messy business. Second, if you follow the instructions, you can make a cone as large as at the carnivals. When it first starts spewing cotton candy, scoop under it and lift it above the machine and twist quickly. It should form a chain of cotton candy that winds around the cone and you should get a large amount of cotton candy. I also found it better to heat it for more than 5 minutes. More like 7 or 10. Then tap it on, and tap it off to just spread the sugar around on the inside of the disc. When it comes to a stop, start it back up and be ready for some cotton candy. I hope this helps you out. If you do not do the following, you will come out with small amounts of cotton candy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great!, January 15, 2005

If you *follow the instructions carefully* it works really well and makes fantastic, delicious cotton candy! The first few times it may not work quite as easily, but once you get the hang of it, it's not tough to make cones as big as (or bigger than) the ones on the box. It must heat up sufficiently and be on a level surface in order to work properly.

The best technique we've come up with is to pour in the sugar carefully, making sure to evenly distribute the sugar, and turn it on immediately. Once the candy starts coming out (which is much more quickly than the instructions suggest), immediately scoop it onto the cone, and carefully lift it up slightly over the bowl and start twisting the cone, occasionally moving it in circles around the bowl. It's worked wonderfully this way.

If you want to add color and flavor, make sure they are very strong in the raw sugar, or else you won't notice them in the finished product.

Finally, with regards to cleaning, if you simply soak the pieces in hot water *immediately* after use, cleanup really is very easy. We haven't had any problems, even when the sugar burned slightly on the first attempt.

This machine is great fun, and I highly recommend it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Worked Good, February 5, 2005
This review is from: Rival CC100 Cotton Candy Maker (Kitchen)
The product is a much higher quality product than the Roseart brand and doesn't look goofy like the one with the wheels. I followed the directions and had satisfactory results although it took about 10 spoonings to get a carnival size cotton candy. I would recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars really cool., February 12, 2005
This review is from: Rival CC100 Cotton Candy Maker (Kitchen)
Last night i used this with my kids, and the cotton candy came out awesome! you need to follow the directions though, and NEVER put more than a scoop and a half in at a time. it's not that hard to clean, just have your kids crack off the hardened sugar in the bowl and eat it. Also soak the center piece in hot water for about 5 minutes.

This machine worked great. I love it, I would recommend to kids and adults. The only bad thing was that at first it didn't produce a lot, but after about 3 cones it was much better. I got it for christmas and it's a great dependable brand, and easy to assemble!
