4.0 out of 5 stars Great fryer for 1-2 people
This fryer does the job well for the money. Odor is kept to a minimum while cooking with the filters. The basket that comes with the unit is quite usefull for frozen foods. Don't use the basket for fresh battered non-frozen food though. It sticks. The lid closes tight to keep the oil fresh and the lid is removable to make cleaning easier. It would have got 5 stars if the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, except doesn't get hot enough.
I like all the features of this deep fryer, except for one major detail. It doesn't get hot enough! Granted, it only falls short by 10 degrees (365¡ instead of it's 375¡ setting), but when it comes time to fry Chinese rice sticks, for example, they just don't get done. French fries come okay though, so I guess how it'll suit you depends on what you'll be using...

Granted, it only falls short by 10 degrees (365¡ instead of it's 375¡ setting), but when it comes time to fry Chinese rice sticks, for example, they just don't get done. Couple the thermostat problem with the fact that it's a bit on the small size, and you may be even less satisfied. If, for example, you load it to capacity with frozen fries, expect the temperature to drop dramatically. Plus, even when it's loaded to capacity, it barely cooks enough food for my family of four (two of which are two young girls who eat like fleas.)

I suppose I'd recommend it for serving one or two people at a time, and only if it's used for less peculiar types of foods than rice sticks.

Don't use the basket for fresh battered non-frozen food though. It sticks. The lid closes tight to keep the oil fresh and the lid is removable to make cleaning easier. It would have got 5 stars if the oil pan was removable. Not being able to hose the thing out makes it tough to clean regardless of a non stick coating. It's still easier to clean than a "burnt on" frying pan.

1.0 out of 5 stars TEMPERATURE LIES, December 16, 2002

I was excited about this little deep fryer when I first got it, but I soon realized that it doesn't get hot enough. At first it was just a little off, but after repeated use (a few times)I found that it doesn't get any hotter than 300 degrees! Much less than the stated 375 degrees. So unless you want to have greasy boiled food, do not buy this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars read and maybe it will work better 4 u?, July 11, 2003

I have used this fryer for months.I have had success because i know the lid locks/removes.I fry food quickly and do not let it sit and smoke to overheat. I keep it clean. I know that if you want to fry some type of "peculiar" food or "it doesn't get 375" as some say that you need to be aware of factors such as "which oil should i use" because many oils lack the chemistry to heat beyond a certian degree! I like peanut oil as will give highest temp. Filter and other factors are consumer responsibility and will effect the machine performance.Information i hope is helpful as often reviews turn off some when product is great and user is off.Good luck!

1.0 out of 5 stars Too Small, Too Cool, and Other Reasons to Avoid, February 27, 2006

Just used this fryer for the first time last night. I was extremely disappointed. My daughter and her family were coming for a casual dinner and I planned to deep fry frozen breaded shrimp. I wanted to have the oil nice and hot when they arrived so that frying the shrimp would take only a matter of minutes.

The first problem I had was attaching the magnetic power cord to the unit. It simply would not stay attached! After many, many tries, I finally got it to stay put. However...the dock is on the rear of the machine, so in order to see it properly, I had to have the back of the machine facing me. Then....when you try to turn it front-side out (where the controls are) the cord detaches! Secondly, the cord is extremely short, which severely limits where you can locate the fryer for cooking.

I finally got the cord to stay put, got the fryer in a suitable spot for cooking, and turned it on. No light. No power. I continued to fiddle with the cord and finally, voila! I had a power connection!

My troubles with this machine weren't over yet. This machine would not heat the oil properly. Even set at 375-degrees, it simply would not get hot enough. Frozen shrimp should take no longer than 3 or 4 minutes to cook (at 350-360.) Each batch we fried took 7-10 minutes and the basket was skimpily loaded so as not to further cool the oil. The shrimp finally had pretty color, but were hard as bricks.

This loser is going straight to the trash.

3.0 out of 5 stars good fryer but terrible to clean, October 26, 2005

I like the fryer because it does fry well. I like the window to see the food. Add a little oil to the window so it wont get foggy. Thats the good part.
The bad part is the clean up which keeps me from using the fryer as often as I would like to.
When frying chicken you end up with the goop at the bottom of the fryer so you have to pick up the whole fryer to pour out the oil and strain it.
Around the rim of the fryer was brown stains from the oil being heated and the steam which is kind of hard to clean. You cant submerge the whole thing in water, only the basket and the lid. The fryer is too much of a hassle when its time to clean it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Fryer - Bad Thermostat, February 1, 2004

I like the fryer, especially for the price. I had the same thermostat problem mentioned by others. Setting it for 375 got about 350. I returned it as defective, but unfurtunately the replacement has the same problem. I use it mainly for fish, for which 350 is fine; I just recalibrated the markings on the thermostat so I can tell how hot it will be. Overall, its a good product with a fairly serious quality control problem.

Absolute piece of junk. Oil heated and then quit heating after expensive food was placed in it. After oil cooled to barely warm, it started heating again. Ruined the food. Ruined dinner. Sure glad I didn't have company over for dinner. Should have left the shrimp in it when I returned it.
