This Is A Great Little Machine!!,

This review is from: Rival Electric 4-Quart Ice Cream Maker (Kitchen)
Anyone who thinks making your own ice cream will save you money over buying some from your local supermarket is seriously being mislead. Homemade ice cream is expensive to make, but if you truly love ice cream, it is worth every penny. It is like a fine wine. You get what you pay for. This little machine makes PERFECT ice cream. I did not use the mix, but we made real ice cream on the Fourth of July from an old family recipe. Yes, the machine is noisy, but so were the hand-cranked machines I remember from my childhood. You just plug this machine in, set the ice and rock salt and sit back and sip some ice tea while this little machine works it's magic. I have tried this twice now in the last few days, and unlike some of the other reviewers, our machine shut off without fail both times. I think the others were a bit too anxious to sneak a taste. The machine is easy to use, and easy to clean. It is a bargain at this price, and well worth it. The ice cream is perfect. Our ice cream has only 3 ingredients - heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla.

My wife is an Ice Cream addict, so what better gift than an Ice Cream Maker? Not this one... It's a great concept and a great price, just not a great product. If your able to cope with a price per batch that "Rivals" the cost of the unit itself and are willing to put up with sounds that "Rival" a cement mixer, then by all means pick up a "Rival Ice Cream and Yogurt Maker". Oh, and it dosent make yogurt, just frozen yogurt.

Rival Ice Cream Freezer Review,
By Dan Crawford (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews

I really enjoy making ice cream with this freezer. It beats the old hand crankers. Only problem is the noise it makes for 45 minutes can be quite annoying. My solution is to use earplugs and hope I don't get a phone call! For those who've lost their manual, try downloading one at http://media-server.amazon.com/media/mole/MAN UAL000010712.pdf

Great little ice cream maker for the ice cream addict!,

I got this for my birthday yesterday and I love it already! Fill can with the ice cream mixture and then pack with ice and rock salt in the bucket. Plug it in (keep adding ice and rock salt every little bit). It runs for about 45 minutes. Take the dasher out scraping off the ice cream, put the top on it, cover with more ice, then newspaper and a towel and you'll have a delicious frozen treat in 2 - 3 hours! I think it's great! Takes me back to my childhood, even the loud noise of the motor! Doesn't bother me, but then again, I'm an ice cream addict!

Love it!!!!!,
This review is from: Rival Electric 4-Quart Ice Cream Maker (Kitchen)
This is a great product. It works great and makes delicous ice cream. Yes it is noisy but I mostly use mine during the summer at parties or get togethers, and everyone is usualy outdoors. When I have used while we were all in the house with it, I just moved it to another room. We love the ice cream so the noise is not a big factor for me. As for the person who complained that it was expensive to make the ice cream...........uuuhhhmmmm name one thing that you make from scratch that doesn't cost more than what you can get mass produced. You pay more for quality, taste and the experience of making something great. This is a special treat that my kids love and that is worth the extra cost to me.

Works fine. I've never met an icecream freezer that didn't make noise, though this one does make a good deal of it. We plug it in outside to use it: problem solved. It didn't shut off when ready the first time we used it, but we also didn't refill the ice and rock salt as it melted. I never use pre-mix, but my own recipe. There are lots of them out there, from creamy and fattening to... well, that other stuff... experiment and enjoy!

for $20 how can you possibly beat this ice cream maker? its price alone should sell it, never mind the fact that it works flawlessly. i never made ice cream before i purchased this, and was very sceptical about spending nearly $200 for the really good makers, so i decided to go with this as a starter to see how it all went. it just doesnt get any easier than this! as far as some people saying that it doesnt stop automatically, it stops by itself just fine, as long as the ice cream is hard enough to slow down the dasher. and as a tip: if the ice cream never gets hard enough, simply add more rocksalt and pack down the ice with a knife a bit. the only gripe i have, is that maybe the motor could have been stronger or the dasher made of a stronger material, but for the price you do get what you pay for. i also purchased the ben & jerrys recipe book and highly recommend it as well. do yourself a favor and dont think twice and buy this great machine. you wont be dissapointed

I have never made ice cream before, nor did I know much about it. My first batch (I did not use the pre-bagged stuff) was awesome, although it did take longer than the directions said. A bit of freezing and the taste couldn't be beat - and I used skim milk, evap skim-whole milk rather than cream, etc! Once you get the hang of adding enough rock salt and ice, and as long as you ignore noise, this machine is great! I've used it about 5 times and each recipe I've used (I found them on the web, and one on the box) turned out great! YUMMY and delicious and cheap, too! ENJOY! Lisa
