Cons: Leaks easily from the hole when moving iron back and forth while ironing and clothes get soaked.
Pros: Extremely light weight. Heats up quickly.
Compared to my workhorse late-80s GE model, the two have the same power output, but the GE doesn't heat up quite as fast because the soleplate is thicker. That added thickness provides weight and better heat retention and distribution. The Rival's steam output isn't quite as high, nor is the soleplate as polished. On my first use, I managed to get some cloth residue stuck to it that took a fair bit of scrubbing with a towel to remove.
Amazon's version has a non-stick soleplate, so even that issue would be avoided. Verdict: excellent iron for occasional use. If it breaks in the next few months, I'll update.
By the way, it is not a heavy duty sturdy build, I imagine it is good for regular usage but can't take much of abuse. It comes with a limited one year warranty printed in the manual. In case anything happens.

This iron is terrible. The dial is difficult to tell what setting it's on. The steam feature has a mind of its own. The water isn't easy to add or remove. Read morePublished 17 months ago by JMGardener
