I purchased two of the 20 quart Rival cookers, one for myself and one for other family members in the Fall of 2002. It appears both units suffered a failure when cooking- they simply stoppped heating in less than 12 months after the purchase.

Upon contacting Rival they offered to repair the units at $20.00 plus any shipping costs we would incur to get it there. This was hardly worth the time or money. The reason I write this review is to alert other consumers that this unit appears to be junk, though it worked well prior to the failure. Each product failed within a year of purchase... ironically within the same family. Sure, that's less than a scientific sampling- but its plenty of data for me.

I totally agree with the concept of using such a device but would highly recommend consumers look for better quality. I regret my price driven purchase.

I bought this to use for Thanksgiving this year - it cooked my 20 lb turkey to juicy perfection in about 3 hours at 350. It also allowed me to use my oven to bake other dishes, a first for me! This appliance really made my day easier and produced a perfect bird. Clean up is a snap as well. Love it!

This has to be the best thing Rival has come up with in a long time. I have been a user of Rival Electronics appliances as long as I can remember and this roaster oven is the best of the bunch. It is very versatile and heats up in a flash. It is very useful when cooking for a crowd and can accomodate the largest of holiday turkeys and hams. The best thing is the variable temperature controls. This allows the roaster oven to be used as either a slow cooker or a roaster. It also frees up your oven for shorter length jobs.

I purchaced a similar roaster oven and it took 4 hours to cook a chicken. My husband and I took it back and purchased the Rival Roaster and we have NOt regreted it since! We have NEVER ruined a turkey or roasting chicken yet. I cooked a 24lb Turkey and my guest were amazed at how moist it was and flavorful. I wish they sold a stand for this with wheels as it does take up counter top space when you use it unless you are lucky and have a huge kitchen with lots and lots of counter top room. I usually put it on top of my washer in my utility room which is a hop step and a jump from my kitchen. I save my counter top space and everybody is happy.

I love this roaster oven. For nostaglic reasons, it reminds me of the one that was in my Grandmother's kitchen. It is wonderful to use. It cooks a wonderful turkey and frees up the oven for large holiday crowds and the enamel finisg makes for easy clean up.

My turkey was cooked in the Roaster Oven and the turkey was the highlight of my family's Thanksgiving dinner. The turkey was tender, juicy, extremely flavorful and it browned to perfection. I received rave reviews about the turkey's great taste from everyone. The roaster does a GREAT job!

Maybe I did something wrong but I had to cook the turkey an hour and a half longer than in a regular oven and it never browned on the top like they usually do.The rack sits too close to the bottom.not enough room for turkey to run off juices

I, too, purchased this to cook a Thanksgiving turkey a couple of years ago and wish I had purchased it a long time ago. The turkey was done to perfection: juicy and tender. I also use it to cook my roast each Christmas day as well as large servings of stew or chili throughout the year. I like the rack that makes it so easy to remove the turkey (or roast) from the pan, which is removable for easy cleaning. One hint: don't make the same mistake I made the first year I used it. I put the turkey in one of those cooking bags then put it in the roaster. I know what you're thinking - that was really dumb. You're right, it was dumb because the bag melted to the side the roaster. It cleaned off of the pan easy enough, but was kind of a mess at first.

I highly recommend this roaster.
