5.0 out of 5 stars Great Fighting Game for all!, July 22, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Rival Schools (Video Game)
Rival Schools:United by Fate is a great fighting game!
It's different from the usual(and boring) Street Fighter or X-men fighting games. The graphics are great and each character has his/her own unique fighting ability. Also, not only are the team-up specials amazing, they're various! They depends on the secondary player. It's not like those Street Fighter games where almost all the moves are similar. And there are lots of secret characters to choose from. A great fighting game I recomend strongly!

I rented this game thinking I would not like it at all.Boy was I wrong I like the evoloution disk better than the arcade disk. The evoloution disk has 14 hidden charcters and hidden extras such as a home run derby, shoot out mode, and more.If you like fighting games than should at least rent it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A cool fighting game to look for!, August 18, 2000

Well after playing Rival Schools, I have something really good to say about this game. The game is fun and cool. It is pretty easy to learn the characters' moves and rally makes you feel good after you do a super move or a team up attack!

I love the game and I will never get tiered of this game! With all the miny games and all the characters to choose from you can really enjoy this game, and I mean really!

Although the characters' moves are based on Street Fighter and Sakura is in the game, the characters' personalities are prety original.

If you are looking for a good fighting game, Rival Schools is on game to keep in mind!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tekken3 meets Marvel v Capcom and lots of laughs ahead, July 3, 2000
By A Customer
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

This game is amazing. One of the best I've played, ever. The graphics are great (almost as good as tekken), the concept is funny- school children and teachers fighting to save their school from some evil gang- and the gameplay is *excellent*. I would not and cannot tire of Rival Schools b/c it's perfect.

It's a fast-paced semi-3D fighting game. The perspective is mostly side to side, and during the fighting one has the ablity to strafe quickly forward and backward (and sneak behind the opponent), like the SoulBlade and SoulCaliber games. There are plenty of characters to choose from, and in each fight one chooses two characters and swaps them out. They also have a team-up option, which is many times very entertaining.

The cool things that differentiate this game from the others are as follows: the fun diversity of personality and style in the characters and their special abilities/combos, the playfulness of the game, and the ability to intercept attacks and reverse them by exploiting the opponent's latency. Upon blocking, a small diamond appears allowing you to counterstrike... Of course, you aren't guaranteed that the opponent won't use the same counterattack against you... Sometimes you have a fight wherein the two fighters will counterstrike each other's special moves back and forth five times. It's really amazing, and it makes the game more fair.

You also have the ability to pound your opponent in the air several times, a technique that is taught to you by the gym teacher Hayato in a special (and extremely helpful) training mode.

I can't say enough about this game, it's fun and addictive. No one can look at this game and say, oh it's just another fighting game, like so many others. Get it and play it you won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent example of a 3-d fighter, November 15, 1999

Rival Schools rivals almost any of the 3-d fighters out there. Aside from the mighty Tekken series this game is second to none. The team mode is an excellent and entertaining extra that adds a little originality to the sometimes unoriginal fighting genre. A great buy indeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic Great, November 18, 2011

If you like 1 on 1 fighting games, you will love this game, and even if you are not into that style of game, this one is still worth a look. This game is so much fun, easy to pick up, and at times hilarious! The way the characters talk trash to each other in Japanese, along with the over the top look of some characters, along with some wacky (sometimes perverted looking) team-up attacks, this game is non-stop laughs. My personal favorite is Hayato, the phys-ed teacher with the mutton chops and the bamboo stick. His team-up attack is to smack his partner in the butt several times until a shruken-like orb shoots out of them and hits their opponent. Non-stop laughs and fun with this Capcom classic. The bonus features are alot of fun too...consisting of various sports mini-games featuring the students who play those sports...Roberto with a soccer game, Shoma with a baseball game, and Natsu with a volleyball game.

What Capcom should have done is to make a new version for the PS3, however, they did not, so the original will have to suffice...the graphics are poor by today's standards, but top-notch by 1997 standards. The fun factor and classicness of this game more than makes up for that shortcoming...as any serious gamer such as myself does not rate the graphics of a classic game by modern standards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic fighting game!, May 9, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rival Schools (Video Game)
This game is great! I bought it at a local video store for like 20 bucks when I was 8 years old and I've always loved this game. It is extremely different from a good majority of the other fighting games. It involves a sort of strategy when playing it. There is two discs that contain the arcade mode and the new modes made for the ps1. The character variety is fanstastic in both terms of figthing styles, character styles, special moves, and double-team moves. You won't be disappointed and you will have endless hours of frantic fighting action and even a story line. Also you have a great soundtrack. If you have the money for this game, get it! Also, some of the characters look kind of like characters from the Ace Attorney series. The main character and the baseball player look like Phoenix and Apollo (I don't remember the two guys names, but just putting that out there because Capcom did in fact make this game as well.) Overall, one of the best fighting games up there with Marvel vs. Capcom 1 and 2 and a good bit of the others.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE. BEST. GAME. EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1, April 30, 2006
A Kid's Review
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rival Schools (Video Game)
This is by far the best game ever to exist on the face of this earth.

First off you got the basic disc, the Arcade version. This is the arcade-perfect translation straight to the Playstation. Here, go head to head in Arcade and Vs. modes, or take the Training mode to familiarize yourself with the true genius that is Rival Schools: United By Fate. This particular disc, being arcade-perfect and stuff, is where you can unlock all the loading artwork and endings for your viewing pleasure.

Then, you have the Evolution disc. When you get sick of just playing Rival Schools by itself, play it with a few twists. Every time you beat this, you get a rather kawaii bonus character...repeat process 24 times and you have 24 kawaii bonus characters. They do all look the same, but have different movesets, which consist of moves from other characters. For example, Koji has Roberto's soccer-ball kick move, Tiffany's jumping kick move, and I can't remember all what else. One of these bonus characters (Eri, to be more precise) even has Zangief's spinning piledriver and Final Atomic Buster from the Street Fighter games. And while you're getting your Rival School Spirit on, kicking the game's hind parts time after time, you get cute little bonus minigames, like a homerun contest, volleyball target practice, and the soccer minigame. Oh yeah...and it was either the arcade or evolution disc, not sure which, that had Tournament and League modes. This game is better than Street Fighter 3. This is the best game ever made, the best game ever to grace the universe, THE BEST GAME IN THE WORLD AND ALWAYS WILL BE. I remember back in the day doing INSANE combos with Shoma...I'd give anything to play this game again.
