2.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't get as hot as it should
At first I thought this was a great product. If you only make cheese fondue it is great. The pot is very easy to clean although it could be easier if it were dishwasher safe.
The problem I've had with mine is that it doesn't get beyond about 320 degrees. The dial goes up to 400 but even after waiting for 30 minutes for it to heat up, it only got up to 323...

I bought this set for my husband and thought we might make fondue every once in a while. It is so easy to clean and extremely easy to use, that we cook in it all the time. We have made several cheese fondues, broths and chocolate. Unlike the "burner" type of fondue sets, this is safe and heats evenly and quickly. I can leave the room and not worry about setting the house on fire. The plug fits well and will only come out if you trip over the cord. This is great if you have pets or kids running around. You will not lose your dinner if someone is clutsy.

We brought our set over to my in-laws for Christmas for a cheese appetizer and it was a huge hit. My mother in law used her set for chocolate. Hers had the flame below and did not heat evenly and took significantly longer to heat the chocolate. It took me seconds to clean my set while my mother in law was scrubbing her old style set. I would highly recommend this brand and type of fondue set!

At first I thought this was a great product. If you only make cheese fondue it is great. The pot is very easy to clean although it could be easier if it were dishwasher safe.
The problem I've had with mine is that it doesn't get beyond about 320 degrees. The dial goes up to 400 but even after waiting for 30 minutes for it to heat up, it only got up to 323 degrees and wouldn't go any further. So if you want to use this for oil for a steak fondue it won't do the job well.
I know these kinds of appliances have to have a short cord and also a break-away cord but this is ridiculous. Touch the darn thing and the cord falls free. Very frustrating if you have a lot of people trying to use it for fondue. People kept telling me that the cheese was getting "hard" because the cord had fallen off, again. Next time I'd get a pot that had a thermometer built in, don't rely on the heat setting dial.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Fondue Pot, October 28, 2005
This review is from: Rival Stainless Steel Fondue Pot
We love to use this pot. We've made cheese, meat, broth, chocolate fondues in this pot without any problems several times. It heats up quickly, cleans up easily. A good feature is that the electrical connection (magnetically connected) will snap off very easily if it is bumped into and the pot doesn't move at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Was waiting for the Cuisinart to go on sale., April 10, 2005
This review is from: Rival Stainless Steel Fondue Pot
However, the local Target store has this one at a $29.99 everyday price, so you don't have to worry about a shipping charge (Sales tax is considerably less.). The whole reason for the short cord and easy plug release is consumer protection. Perhaps Rival should have this 'boisterous child safe' version and create an adult version for the rest of us.

The real reason I gave this 4 rather than 5 stars is that you are going to use at least quart of peanut oil each time you decide to fondue with oil and that is a fairly pricey item. I would rather see a 2 quart that would still comfortably allow for 8 to fondue.

All-in-all, better than the old 70's Oster fondue pot and won't put a dent in your pocketbook.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for any type of fondue, February 25, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Rival Stainless Steel Fondue Pot
We have used this for cheese, chocolate and meat fondues. Throw away the double boiler, you don't need it with this around. We used to use the sterno for cheese and meat, the candles for chocolate. This has made them all obsolete. It is very easy to clean up and use for the next course. We have never burned anything or waited forever for this to cook anything in this unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fondue pot!, June 15, 2003

This review is from: Rival Stainless Steel Fondue Pot
I've purchased the open flame style fondue pots before and have always been dissapointed. This electric pot makes fondue easier and lots more fun! I never have to worry about running out of gel fuel in the middle of eating. I don't have to wait 10 minutes for the boullion to boil. I don't have to melt the cheese in a pot on the stove before transferring it to the pot. It does it all, and it's amazingly easy to clean. This is a great product. I highly reccomend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love it!, November 18, 2004
This review is from: Rival Stainless Steel Fondue Pot
Great non stick fondue pot. It cleans so easily. Electric fondue pots are really great and easy to use. I love mine. Every type of fondue I have cooked in it has come out fabulous. Yes, the cord is short, but not a big deal. Use an extension cord.

This nifty gadget helps my family and I to enjoy quality time together. Although the meals can be quite long, the novelty of the pot itself keeps my children spellbound. We have enjoyed trying many different food items, including potatoes, grapes, and seaweed. Yummy! I urge everyone to try out this nifty fondue pot for simple family gatherings or a nifty party. Hurray! Hurray for fondue! Let's join together to make this America's new favorite pasttime. My cat even loves fondue. Who doesn't love fondue?

5.0 out of 5 stars A++++, December 6, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Rival Stainless Steel Fondue Pot
This is the perfect little pot for entertaining or for keeping the kids entertained (with supervision, of course). It's easy to create lots of possibilities and a snap to clean up. I love that I don't have to transfer from another pot. Cheese melts quickly and stays perfectly warm. The recipes included are great. I highly recommend this A++++ fondue pot.

I had been looking for an electric fondue pot forever. This is great! It cleans up so easily, and I love the way it looks. The holders for the forks keep everything orderly. The best part about this is that you can keep the oil hot. You don't have to worry about any open flame.
