5.0 out of 5 stars I've Had This Blender For Over A Year
I have been making smoothies almost everyday and they come out great. Put my decaf coffee and 1% milk in the microwave and froth it with this stick-like device and in 10 seconds it froths. Have used it to whip baked potatoes into creamy mashed. Am always thinking I'm over-taxing its little motor, but no, I start it up and its still working.

2.0 out of 5 stars little disappointed
This blender does the job passably, but the blade is so much higher than the plastic ridges that it makes it hard to blend things like cloves of garlic into your hummus, say. the garlic just gets a bit tattered and nothing more...

Also, there is less power than I expected, even on the "high" setting blending something simple takes way too long...

5.0 out of 5 stars simple, sturdy, useful, May 9, 2007
This review is from: Rival IB954W Ultrablend 2-Speed Handheld Immersion Blender (Kitchen)
I needed a simple hand-held blender, the kind

* you could just keep on the counter without losing much real estate
* you could use and use and not have to worry that it'll fall apart
* that was strong enough to handle whatever goo had to be mixed
* that co$t less than a concert ticket
* that didn't have any detachable parts that would be lost the first day
* you could just rinse off when done and forget till next time

This is that blender. Only drawback: it's got a cord. Minor issue if you're using it in the same place pretty much all the time. The two speeds make it even more useful. Excellent product, a steal if it's still about 14 and change.

5.0 out of 5 stars so many jobs well done, February 19, 2007

Wonderful for making smoothies, refried beans, creamy potatoes, quickly pureeing soups that call for transferring batches to food processor - just stick it in the pot and it blends in a few seconds. It creams hard frozen bananas just like ice cream. I just put my food processor way up high in the "little used" storage area of my kitchen because this Rival hand blender makes it unnecessary. I use it several times a week and have had it since 1993. I keep finding more uses for it every week. Clean up takes seconds since the only area to get really messy is the blade area at the end. The blades are rounded and very easy to clean with your fingers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value, March 8, 2008

I was hesitant to buy this model because it was so inexpensive I thought it might be flimsy or lacking power compared to some of the others I was considering, but the price was so good I couldn't resist. I'm glad, because it's great. So far I've used it for scrambling eggs (nice & fluffy) and making smoothies. Very solid, easy as heck to clean, and more powerful than I expected.

5.0 out of 5 stars RIVAL ULTRABLEND, June 30, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Rival IB954W Ultrablend 2-Speed Handheld Immersion Blender (Kitchen)
I have had a Rival Ultrablend that after 7 years of heavy use in our kitchen we will lay to rest because the seal is broken. I have been afraid of this day because we have had the opportunity to use handblenders of other brands and have found that none perform like our Rival. We have found it to be the only one to puree food fine enough for a baby, strong and sharp enough to blend our recipes on our stovetop instead of transferring soups to our blender. Hoping that the new model performs just as well, we are sticking to Rival.

5.0 out of 5 stars Older model, February 10, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Rival IB954W Ultrablend 2-Speed Handheld Immersion Blender (Kitchen)
I've had an older model for around six years and it's wonderful! I use it several times per week. Today I just had to write a review because I made cauliflower soup. One part called for transfering the soup into a blender in batches. All I had to do was stick the blender into the sauce pan - quick, easy, no mess to deal with!

Great buy for the money. Does the job well. Only thing is that you're not supposed to immerse it in hot food. When I want to blend my soup, the soup is usually hot. I tried using it in hot soup once and it started whining after that. Otherwise, I recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blender Use, January 11, 2007

I like the blender, it works really great to create a variety of cocktails, milkshakes as well as mashing up stuff such as beans to make refried beans. It doesn't do a great job of smushing up small amounts of food to make baby food; the blender whirls with so much power it just sucks up the food into the blade but won't let it out. This item is great for making gravy too, but it can throw food up and out of shallow pans with the centrifugal force it creates so watch the hot stuff.
