Very Nice Accessory,

This review is from: Rival VSMK1 Seal A Meal Marinating Kit (Kitchen)
This is a nice add-on item to the Seal-A-Meal. I'm not sure Amazon's description is adequate, so I'll start there. This is simply a container made for marinating meats. However, it can be used for other purposes too. Inside the bottom half are some raised "bumps" that hold the meat up and allow the marinade to flow under the meat. The top of the container has a one way valve. You connect the plastic hose (included) to it and the other end to your Seal-A-Meal and it sucks the air out of the container, creating a vacuum inside the container that helps open the "pores" of the meat, allowing it to marinate faster and more thoroughly. Once the vacuum is created, you can disconnect the hose and store the contents indefinitely. So, while it's made specifically for marinating, it can be used as a "stay fresh" canister for most anything that will fit inside. When you're ready to open it, you push the "button" on the valve and the outside air rushes in, eliminating the vacuum and allowing you to open the container.
It would be difficult to know exactly how much this helps the marinating process without doing some kind of side by side test. I didn't do anything like that, but I am convinced that it has helped marinate the meats that I've put in it. It creates a very good vacuum and a very tight seal. It's a nice size to marinate in, but also to store leftover soups, stews, vegetables or meats. You could use it for cookies, crackers, potato chips. You name it. It will fit easily in your refrigerator or pantry. The top half is NOT dishwasher safe, but the bottom half is. You can use the bottom half in the microwave to reheat whatever you've stored inside, thus eliminating having to wash another dish. If you do a lot of marinating, this is a no-brainer. But even if you only occasionally marinate meats, it's worth buying because it has so many other uses.

I like this product. Quality is very good. I use it for other things besides marinating. Store homemade cookies in it, left over soups and stews, etc. I am glad I bought it.

This thing has worked perfectly for me.
My favorite thing to do with it is to make my mom's oriental marinade: 1 onion, chopped 1 cup soy sauce 1 cup garlic infused vinegar 1/4 cup sesame oil 1 piece of fresh ginger, chopped 3 heaping tsps minced garlic, (ca. 4 cloves) A dash of cumin A dash of white pepper (By the way, although I love Chinese and Japanese food I ate meat marinated in this for years before I knew it was an "oriental" marinade. It doesn't taste particularly oriental to me. Just delicious.) Then take a nice fat London broil and cut it into chunks about the size you'd use for stew (inch to inch and half a side). Poke holes in the meat chunks with skewers or a an old-fashioned ice crusher (the kind with six or eight scary looking spikes sticking out of the business end). Really make a lot of tiny holes. Pour the marinade into the container, hook up the hose, hit the button, and watch as Seal A Meal sucks the air out. Because the air pressure inside is so low, the liquid is drawn into the holes you poked. It's really cool to see how the level of the liquid goes down over time, showing you that it really does penetrate the meat. My recipe usually leaves the tops of some cubes exposed so I turn them over and reseal after a half hour. I grill the chunks like shish kebab on metal skewers. I put peppers, onions and tomatoes on separate skewers because they cook faster than the meat. If you have left over cubes you can cook them and cut them up for a steak salad or refrigerate them (use them within the week) or freeze them in a Seal A Meal bag, in which case they can last for months. Alternatively you can refrigerate or freeze them in the raw state to cook them another day. Either way, they're delicious. If you try the recipe leave a comment and let me know how you like it. Happy Grilling!
