I looked at just about every brand of wok on the market and believe me, this is the best. It's a very heavy-duty stainless steel with a high gloss finish that makes it look great on the counter. I also like the glass lid and the capacity makes it super for entertaining. Being able to put it in the dishwasher really sets it apart from the rest. Excellent value too!

There is no Rival for the Rival Wok,

This is one of the greatest woks that I have ever owned. Its incredible 7.3 quart capacity helps a lot when I need to cook something at one time. Also, when it gets dirty; which usually doesn't occur, I just stick the wok in the dishwasher and I have no fear of it breaking because it is made out of steel. The best feature of the wok is that I can control the temperature whenever I want to. In my opinion, I think this is the one of the best wok's ever.

Wow, am I amazed at how great this thing works! I've used a steel wok on an electric range for years, wishing I had a gas range because it would heat and cool almost instantly...as a wok should. Today I stir fried some vegetables in my Rival. After steaming under that great glass lid, I removed it to add my sauce mixture and turned off the heat as usual to start the cool down. The heat went all the way off and I had to turn it up again to finish thickening the sauce. This is the closest thing I can imagine to using I gas burner. You'd better get one of these!

I've owned this wok for approximately one year and it has had minumum use;maybe twice a month. Once before I had used it and one of the four plastic support legs was loose so I tightened it with a screwdriver. My wife usually uses it the majority of the time. Today while making fried rice two of the legs loosened and the wok sat on the counter. After washing it I looked at the legs and noticed that on each leg there is a minute piece of plastic that fits into a small hole in the base of the wok that prevents the leg from turning. Several of these were missing. I put locktight on all the screws and tightened them but stripped one. The screws are simple metal screws. I thought that I was buying quality. I also noted that the price has dropped dramaticly since I paid eighty some dollars for mine.

If you understand the most fundamental principle of wok cooking, you know that you want a small, concentrated spot of hot oil in the bottom of the pan, in which to flash cook your food. The food is rotated through the oil quickly, and a minimal amount of oil is used.
The problem is, that this Rival "wok" actually has a flat bottom, 7 or 8 inches across. Thus it is really shaped like an "everyday pan," and is incapable of true wok cooking. It should be called an "electric everyday pan." More oil is required than with a true wok, and the process of rotating the food through the oil is much less pleasing than it should be. That said, the stainless feature is better than a nonstick that will start decomposing in 5-6 years, and the heat is good, and nicely adjustable. Clean up is very easy, especially after a little soaking. If you are not as fussy as I, this may suit you. If you enjoy wok coooking for its health benefits, and as an aesthetic pursuit, move on to another brand. And tell me which one does it right- I haven't found one yet (that is electric).

Although I haven't used this wok much, but not for want but lack of getting the veggies for Chinese cooking in my area. The few times I have used it I found it to be very good cooking and clean up was a breeze, since it is stainless steel.

I have been "wok-hopping" for 25 years. Bought this beauty, which will hold fried rice for 15, and now you can call me "Dunlookin'"
Hurry before the price goes back to what it's really worth!

I bought this in April of 2005 on Amazon. When I received the wok, the first thing I noticed is that inside of the top lid was slightly dented (but no big deal). Second, the little side grill that comes with it is 100% useless because you can't put the lid on the wok while you have that little grill hanging on the inside! So, what's the point in even having it? Beats me.
Also the big plug that goes into the wok is really HARD to push in! I'm not kidding. You have to sort of grind and groove it to get it to go in. Also, the wok does burn on the bottom, regardless what level you are cooking at, and you really can't use something abrasive to clean it. You have to soak it in water, then heat up the wok to remove it. What I do afterwards is also apply a light covering of olive oil with a paper towel so that it doesn't get those cloudy stains. To go through all of this is just not worth it. Go get one of those old chinese woks and use them on the stove instead. They are much easier to maintain that this one! |
