this book was gut wrenching to get through.

spoiler alert.

after jessie is taken, peitr is forced to revert back to being a werewolf. he promptly
imprints with marelena. i had a feeling that was going to happen. let me tell you, it was nauseating and downright disturbing
reading about peitr pinning for marelena when he is supposed to be in love with jessie . its was so difficult that i actually
had to sneak a peak at the end just to make sure that he ended up with jessica . otherwise, i could not have continued.
iam one of those people who gets emotionally into a book and if your like me then it will be difficult for you to. i do have to say though, that things do work for them but never the less, it was still hard to get through. there is one part where he changes from wolf after a hunt and is butt naked and kissing marelena. gross.
i hated marelena!! i really didnt enjoy this last installment and really, the only reason i pushed through it was because i was
four books into it already . seriously ?. why would you put us through that shannon delaney? i do believe it has the outcome that fans will be expecting and if your like me, pretty much demanding but its still does not make for an enjoyable read. at all.werewolf books tend to be my favorite , even more than vampires . what can i say. i love all the growly, alpha males. and 13 to life series was one of my favorite in the genre . now, its not even on my top 20.

The conclustion to one of my favorite series had me scared to death it wasn't going to end well at all. It was the first time I had seen that take on the imprinting element and I love it. As with all of the 13 to Life books, I could not put it down! Don't read them out of order and if you are just starting them then hold on or a great time!

In Junction Jessie Gillmansen and the Rusakova family including her boyfriend Pietr take the lycanthropic cure so that they can be "normal" and safe from the mob and the company whose headquarters in town was destroyed (see Destiny and Deception). However, Pietr has changed, which strains his relationship with Jessie.

Meanwhile, Marlaena leads her Chicago werewolf pack to take over Junction. When someone abducts Jessie, Pietr goes berserk with an obsessive need to rescue his beloved. However, he turns wolf only to imprint with Marlaena. Like him she loves someone else so neither wants this bond. At the same a mutual enemy plots the demise of the Lycan while Jessie hopes to save her boyfriend and reverse engineer the terrible scientific experiments.

The final 13 to Life werewolf saga (see Secrets and Shadows and Bargains and Betrayals) is an engaging climax to an entertaining urban fantasy. The storyline is fast-paced, but the enemy who seems menacingly invincible early on fails to live up to their earlier reputation when the confrontation occurs. Still fans of the saga will appreciate Rivals and Retribution as time is running out to find the cure and deal with the adversarial assault.

Author Shannon Delany is a lyrical delight, and none of her "13 to Life" series ever disappoint. "Rivals and Retributions" is no exception-and I am delighted to once again make my acquaintance with Ms. Delany's lyrical writing and intense understanding of character. The author juggles quite a number of themes and plot situations and ever-mutable characters, and not only does she manage to keep them straight-she aligns them properly for the reader as well, so that there's never any confusion, only a gentle unraveling of mysteries (usually accompanied by even more mysteries which keep the reader both guessing and enthralled). Not every author of YA fiction can peer beneath the surface of her young characters with the same ability which Shannon Delany demonstrates; and the protagonists, and secondary characters, in her novels immediately become our friends-in some cases, our "enemies," because the enemy of our friend is our enemy. There is a wonderful three-dimensional rendering of character which Ms. Delany applies, giving a depth to her individuals not found everywhere-in YA or adult fiction.
Since this is a series, I don't want to give away any plot. Suffice it to say that the characters of the earlier books who have enraptured readers-Jessie, Pietr, Amy, Sarah, and Jessie's beloved horse Rio-continue here, delighting readers with their return. If you haven't read the earlier books in the series, this one can function as a stand-alone, but take it from me, do yourself an immense favour, and read the entire series! You'll always be glad you did, and never regret it.

Review copy was provided to me by the author's publicist in exchange for my fair and honest advance review.

I loved everything about this book, though the ending nearly gave me a heart attack! This series is great for teens or Young Adults who have a taste for werewolves, a twisted love story, and believe only the fittest survive.

Rivals and Retribution by Shannon Delany was an interesting addition to the 13 to Life series. I found it to be a bit lackluster after the trilling ending to Destiny and Deception. So while it was a decent read, I don't think it was my favorite book in the series.

I really enjoy the characters of this series. Max is so funny and just adorable, Cat is just intriguing and lovely, Amy is the best friend I wish I had, and so many more. They all are so real and I just love following their stories.

I found Rivals and Retribution to be much slower than the other books in the series. It also was a bit choppier with all the POVs that switched quite often. I found the plot to be very intense though - Shannon Delany throws some of the biggest action in the book in the first pages of the book, which is quite a feat.

I really enjoy this series - it has had its highs and lows for me, and Rivals and Retribution was just that. It wasn't my favorite book of the series but I still found it enjoyable.

The 13 to Life series by Shannon Delanny comes to an end with Rivals and Retribution. As its pages slowly dwindled and I found myself unable to put it down, I couldn't help but feel for the so called enemy of the two love birds of this 5 book series. Yet, I couldn't be happier that I had the opportunity to read such great writing. The book series is really about the choices we make in our lives and how those choices effect the one's we love. For those unfamiliar with this series should definitely look into it. Each book averages about 300 pages, so if you're an avid reader or person interested in paranormal werewolf stories, mixed with that of a forbidden love, you'd definitely enjoy the 13 to Life Series...

In order of publication:

13 to Life (2010)
Secrets and Shadows (2011)
Bargains and Betrayals (2011)
Destiny and Deception (2012)
Rivals and Retribution (2012)

As far as final books go I thought this was a good end to an awesome series. I didn't love this book as much as I loved the first three. It was done different than the first three. And though I understand the need to see parts of the story through the eyes of the female Alpha, I really didn't like her as a character. So that really brought my love for this series down. I'm happy with the way it ended. Over all I loved this book and I loved the series. It's definitely worth checking out. Especially if you loved the wolves of mercy falls trilogy. It reminded me a lot of that series. The only thing I really hated about this Series is all the times Twilight was taked about. i'm cool with that series but I didn't think it needed to be mentioned so much.:)

As cheesy as this series started out I stuck with it because it had some great promise and for the most part every book in this series delivered except this one. If you've read all the other books I'd stop and not read this last one just make a happy ending in your head for Jessie and Petra. As a habitual constant book reader I can always tell when the author is tired of their series and is working on or ready to work on something else and that's how this book was. Very different from all the other books in this series and was very disappointing, hurried and over all a huge mess that still by the end didn't tie up all the loose ends and it concentrated too much on a character that has not a lot to do with this series as a whole again very obvious the author was ready to hurriedly end the series. Definitely getting my money back this book should really be free because it's that disappointing for those of us that have a followed the series and isn't a pre teen.
