I ordered this a little while ago, and it's been sitting on my desk at work. Everyone who sees it admires it, and it's a good way for me to remind myself to get up every hour and at least stretch so I don't get too cramped up by sitting at my desk for hours at a time. The shipping packaging was great, so don't worry about it arriving broken. The only thing I can say that occasionally it does that I didn't expect is that it infrequently stops in the middle of the hour, but when I notice it, it only takes a little shake to get the sands moving again. I really like the hourglass, so if you've been looking for one, this is a fine-looking hourglass at a great price, so you should order it now!

Buyer Beware when purchasing this hourglass. I am a very proud owner of a beautiful cherry hourglass that I purchased under this description from this website. It's solidly constructed. Everyone who sees it compliments me on it. Subsequently I have purchased this item 2 more times online, same River City box, same item number 906C and I have received what appears to be a very cheap knock off. It's poorly-constructed. The hourglass is discolored and not made of the same material. The wood is darker and almost looks painted over. The 3 posts are thinner than the original and coming apart from the bases. The sand is a darker color and adheres to the hourglass as if wet. The first time I was out over $20 back and forth. The second time the company (not Amazon) refused to refund at all. I don't know how to explain the differences in the 2 products but be careful unless you are purchasing this item in person. I am rating this a 3 since the original (if you can get your hands on that one) is exquisite but the hourglasses that appear to be left are horrid and I wouldn't buy them in a dollar store.

hourglass sand timer is very pretty,however, there are chunks of sand that get stuck in the funnel - every time - over and over again. Does not do a very good job as a timer.

We bought this for a friend who collects them. He loved it. He loved everything about it. It's size, color and that it looked a lot like the one on Days of our Lives. So if that is what your looking for, I would by it. Great price too.

This was a great find -- an excellent tool for a therapist! The order process was very smooth and I received it quickly.

I received the hourglass in a timely manner. Upon opening and examining it, I immediately noticed a scratch which peeled of the color of one of the "support beams". Furthermore, there was a visible scratch which upon inspection seemed to be some manufacture flaw as it was quite thick and was bulging out. One of the hourglass base had visible carvings like damage near the base. I sent for replacement.

I must commend Amazon as I received an email saying that a replacement will be shipped soon and they apologize for the defective product. This was even prior to me mailing the product. Excellent customer service!

The second hourglass was in excellent condition aside from a similar carving like shape near the base. However, this was very near the base of the hourglass and not as noticeable so it is acceptable.

Overall..... haven't time it yet but this is a very nice hourglass. However, I do believe there are problems with quality assurance as I don't understand how the damaged base could have been overseen by anybody. This was definitely not type of any shipping related damage. Make sure that there are no such damages on your hourglass.

Four stars overall, due to the price. It is nice but a bit pricey.

I have always thought hourglasses were pretty. I bought this one to time my son's "quiet time" in his room. If he falls asleep, there's no alarm bell at the end of the hour to wake him up. If he stays awake and plays he knows when the sand is done, he can come out of his room. He hasn't figured out faking me out by waiting and flipping it over shorting the overall time (YET!) but it works so far!! I wish there were a plastic version...

The overall style and beauty of the timer is fine, but there is a slight flaw: the sand can get stuck and not flow freely. Usually there is a small residue of sand attached to the upper chamber, which only descends to the lower chamber when encouraged by a gentle tap! Perhaps the sand is not completely dry (I dont know). On some occasions, the sand gets stuck and a significant quantity of sand remains in the upper chamber.

This hourglass is possibly the best waste of money I have ever spent!
In a time and age where people have cellphones, watches, and clocks at every corner, this product is practically useless!

I tell myself this, yet... I could not and can not escape my inescapable desire to have an hourglass. I am a musician and I practice in one hour segments, so I told myself, well, if I'm going to get an hourglass, I might as well make sure that it's an hour. I ended up buying this, and I love it! Mine was very accurate (59 minutes and 20 seconds!), the sand has never gotten stuck on me, and it looks fantastic! I can't wait to lug this dinosaur-age technology with me to the practice rooms and just practice until the sand runs out!

Really pleased with the hourglass. Nice size and sand empties exactly on the hour. No problems with sand clogging. Would recommend.
