It works out fine, November 5, 2003
This review is from: River Deep Mt High (Audio CD)
This is a reissue of a classic album from 1966. It is performed by Ike & Tina Turner, although Ike doesn't appear on some of the tracks. The album is credited to Phil Spector as producer, although half the tracks were actually produced by Ike. It is easy to tell who produced what. The Spector tracks have his typical "Wall of Sound", and the Ike tracks sound more like traditional R&B. Pretty much all the songs are good, but of course the title track, "River Deep, Mountain High", is the highlight. I will list what songs are on the album, followed by who produced them:
1. River Deep, Mountain High (Spector)
2. I Idolize You (Ike)
3. A Love Like Yours (Spector)
4. A Fool In Love (Ike)
5. Make 'Em Wait (Ike)
6. Hold on Baby (Spector)
7. I'll Never Need More Than This (Spector)
8. Save the Last Dance For Me (Spector)
9. Oh Baby! (Ike)
10. Every Day I Have to Cry (Spector)
11. Such a Fool For You (Ike)
12. It's Gonna Work Out Fine (Ike)

Why???, May 20, 2004

Why doesn't A&M release this CD in the US? It's pretty obvious that the company is highly selective about what they will re-release (Phil Ochs but not Tina Turner??) And why doesn't Amazon (or anyone else) ever seem to have this in stock - though it has been available regularly abroad? Is the Spector curse really true? This may not be the greatest rock record ever made. but in it's own way isn't it a classic? Why???
