5.0 out of 5 stars a must read for any man about to marry or already married!, April 15, 1999

This review is from: River, the Kettle and the Bird: A Torah Guide to a Successful Marriage (Hardcover)
People tend to be kinder to strangers, colleagues or friends than to their spouses! This books shows how speaking in a gentle, sincere manner will only enhance a relationship. It's written for men but women can certainly use the advice to speak to their husbands respectfully, as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for ANY to be married couple!, February 1, 2005
This review is from: River, the Kettle and the Bird: A Torah Guide to a Successful Marriage (Hardcover)
This is a well written book that addresses many marriages. It is written for a Jewish marriage but other faiths can find it very useful. As a woman, I found it enjoyable and enlighting. After 20+ years of marriage it held many truths. It is written for a man but any woman can easily apply the same principals in reverse. A MUST for all to read! >^,,^<

2.0 out of 5 stars Not really useful, and may be dangerous..!, March 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: River, the Kettle and the Bird: A Torah Guide to a Successful Marriage (Hardcover)
I bought this book based on many good reviews, here on Amazon and other recommendations. However, I am very disappointed.

Being a man, this book makes me feel worthless. To sum up what this book says, will be that men are worthless, live in fantasy, are very selfish, doesn't understand to kids (vs. the mothers feelings), they are very angry human beings, and women are superior in every way, and that's why a man must always accept blames from his wife, and even "thank her" for the criticism; while in no way is he allowed to criticize his wife.

I don't have the time here, but almost every chapters seems to repeat the same, with the exception of a few chapters that explains well how to deal with anger (hence the 2 stars).

I don't know this writer, but I would say that either a woman wrote this book, or at least it was edited by a woman (a selfish one, for that matter). She keeps describing the female feelings in almost every chapter in such great detail, which is almost impossible for a man to do.

True, he (she?) brings a lot of writings of the "Sages", but all harsh ones are being applied to the husband, and gives the women the freedom of everything. And anything that the sages say about women to respect their husbands, is being twisted to his (her) liking in a way that it doesn't mean what you think they mean.

This book is not worth to read IMO, it may be poison for a married couple, especially for a woman! Watch out..!
