Rivers and Analysis,

This review is from: River Mechanics (Paperback)
River Mechanics by Pierre Y. Jlien is a necessary companion to Erosion and Sedimentation by the same author. Each book is written for a "professional" looking to better their understanding of river (or stream) mechanics and how to repair damaged sections of a river by understanding the way river forces are applied to channels. Julien does a good job, if you read closely, on how the general forces are pieces of a three dimensional mathematical model which can be expanded to properly predict what changes are most likely to occur at some point in a channel.
Working with river bends with sill and contraction problem the three dimensional model techniques came together in chapters 5 and 6. I was able to read the text (sometimes several times to get the point) coupled with a knowledge of mathematics I was able to put the text to pratical use. "River Mechanics" is a good book by itself and when coupled with "Erosion and Sedimentation" by the same author it becomes a great set for the professional.

Exciting stuff!,

Forget about stories of the Nile, spies and lurid sex. This book is really exciting! Imagine, learning about sediment deposition trends, velocities, and mobility. A nicely written book for the lawyer or forensic witness that needs to work on a river matter, particularly a contamination case.
A good beginner book in this area. Try it, if you need it. |
