I walked into a pop music store in the late-80s and heard this playing - "Wow, that sounds like 'Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus'!" I thought. Since then I've made it a mission to buy every Monty Alexander album I've come across and I am yet to be disappointed. This guy has the most amazing chops since Oscar Peterson hit the scene (in fact, he sounds a lot like Oscar at times). This album is a tribute to the church music that Monty grew up listening to in Jamaica. The arrangements will enthrall you - check out the beautiful 'Ave Maria' (with the double bass sounding for all the world like a singing cello) and the sonorous chords of 'Holy, Holy, Holy'. Then there's an unusual, rumbling 'How Great Thou Art' to conclude the disk. Great stuff!

An exquisite, uplifting recording that will surely stir the soul. Monty and John Clayton navigate the listener on a spiritual journey to truth and happiness. A must for the collection.
