Retired Texas Ranger Billy Cambridge, now a lawyer, is robbed of $20,000 he is taking by stagecoach to Fort Smith, Arkansas. He and his companion, Nacho Graves, set out to recover the money and to bring the robbers ("owlhoots") to justice. They come up against a murderous gang with a mysterious leader. The author knows how to keep readers reading--suspense, excitement, gunplay, villains busy about their villainy, plus a love interest or two, and a surprise ending. This 1880s Western provides a good evening's entertainment for buffs.
