5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and Totally Amazing...A Must Have!, June 20, 1999

"River of Time" is by far the best, but most underrated and overlooked album that the dynamic duo(The Judds) ever created. This was the last album produced before Naomi's illness was discovered, therefore it captures the girls at their finest hour... Unlike their ultimate masterpiece "Love Can Build A Bridge" that echoes the death of their long and successful career. Artisticly speaking, this is the most complete Judd record. It features Wynonna's amazing voice matured and at it's best. This record also includes several Naomi penned tunes that give the album its life, namely the title track "River of Time". This CD is worth purchasing for that song alone. It is the most powerful and inspiring song that I've ever heard. The dynamics of this track top even those of The Judds' signature song "Love Can Build A Bridge". You have not lived until you have experienced the "River Of Time"!

5.0 out of 5 stars River of Success!, May 11, 2000

Well, once you listen to 'River of Time', you'll feel like you went down and swam in the river of success.....for the Judds, that is! This album is the best for taking road trips, doing your homework, etc. Each song is nastalgic and dreamy. The Judds know how to pull feeling, not only in their voices but also with the catchy guitar playing accompanying their harmonies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Splendid attempt to stay fresh sounding..., March 19, 2003

The Judds could do no wrong in the 80's, but we all knew Wynonna was capable of doing so much more than what the 'Judds' recorded. This release begins to show us what Wy is capable of and it's nice. Although I'm one to yawn at such touchy-feely songs as "Young Love"; most of the others are extraordinary and ground-breaking for the time period. "One Man Woman" is a haunting delight as is their Dire Strait's cover "Water of Love" which Mark Knopfler played guitar on. "Not My Baby" is a fun bluesy, old-styled song that is fun to listen to. "River of Time" is a very touching song and is so full of meaning and prophetic of Naomi's retire from the industry. "Guardian Angel" sums up what the Judds have been all along - down-home women with strong family values. This was the last strong release from the Judds and it shines with brightness, tenderness, playfulness, and is a gem in the Judd's fine collection.

I didn't know much of the Judds when I bought this record, and I was amazed! How can two people make such beautiful music, without me knowing :-) Well, I know now - and this is NOT my last Judds album - for sure!

5.0 out of 5 stars An overlooked album, May 15, 2004
This review is from: River Of Time (Audio CD)
Fans who go beyond the various hits packages looking for original Judds albums generally go for their earlier music and ignore this one, which is a pity. Although this is not quite up to the standard of their best (Why not me, Rocking with the rhythm), it is still a high quality album worthy of hearing. Although the Judds were renowned for their traditional country music, this album is less traditional-sounding than their earlier music. Even so, most people who enjoy their earlier music should also enjoy this - this is still far more traditional than any of Wynonna's solo albums.

The album yielded two number one country hits (Young love, Let me tell you about love). Most of the songs are originals but there are two covers. The first (Sleepless nights) is an Everly Brothers song (written for them by Boudleaux and Felice Bryant, who wrote several of their classic hits). Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris, Peter and Gordon, Norah Jones and Elvis Costello have also covered it. I've heard four of these six versions and they are all brilliant but the Judds' version is as good as the others. The second (Water of love) is a cover of a song by Mark Knopfler, leader of the British guitar-rockers Dire Straits. The other six songs (One man woman, Not my baby, River of time, Cadillac red, Do I dare, Guardian angel) are also of a high quality and offer plenty of variety. River of time is a wonderful ballad. Cadillac red is an up-tempo song. One-man woman is a bluesy mid-tempo song.

If you are a Judds fan - or a Wynonna fan - do not overlook this album. If you are a Dire Straits fan, perhaps you will want this to hear Mark Knopfler play electric guitar on Water of love.

5.0 out of 5 stars The height of their success, April 25, 2000

My first Judds' collection was The Judds Collection 1983-1990 back in 1992. Then one day it was stolen and that just burned me 'cause when I went out to replace it it was no longer in print and all stores were sold out. I never did get over the River Of Time track and the other tracks off the album. Seven tracks from River of Time had made it to that collection-the most off any of their albums-that should say to somene "hey, this is the best Judds album of their career." Now I'm out there buying every Judds disc to make up for my stolen loss.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Music, July 18, 2006

Music Lover "Music Lover" (Lafayette, Indiana, USA) - See all my reviews

If you are a fan of The Judds than this CD is for you. In my opinion this CD is the best The Judds have ever done. It starts out with the single One Man Woman which shows their vocal abilities of singing low and high. The next song which was also a single is called Young Love which is about a boy and a girl who meet and fall in love and it tells of how they make it through the rough times and still are in love as much as they were when they met. My favorite song on the CD is Let Me Tell You About Love mainly because I like the up-beat tempo. I saw The Judds in concert twice when they were still performing and they do one hell of a job on this song live. Water Of Love reminds me of an old western song because of the haunting music. River Of Time is a beautiful song and The Judds do a fantastic job of singing this song. The CD ends with the 4th single Guardian Angel. This song is about their ancestors and how they feel them all the time reguardless of what they do or where their at. The song didn't reach the top 10 but it is a classic. I will always love The Judds and their music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding harmonies, November 21, 2010

I'm not a die-hard Judds fan, and had only listened to a greatest hits CD before this, but I was completely taken by the tight instrumentals and incredible harmonies: both Sleepless Nights and Water of Love are outstanding tracks. It helps to have Mark Knopfler's guitar on W of L; the instrumentals are pure genius. I didn't like every track equally, but the entire package is worth having.

What can I say but "The Judds" I miss that these two fabulous performers are no longer together. This is one of their best.

This cd is really good and Wynonna really shines on River of Time. From the heartfelt "Young Love" and "Guardian Angels" to the spunky "Cadillac Red", this cd has a great mix of music. The Judds really pour themselves into their music and it really comes through on this cd. Any country music fan will love this cd.
