Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: MovieShop 6 (CD-ROM)
I got my software today (extremely quick on Amazon's part!!). First of all, there is a sticker on the front of the box that says "$20 off - see back" and NOTHING on the back (first turn-off). Opened the box - NO manual. The "online help system" is lacking and the software won't recognize any of my existing MPEG files for import. The ad touts Design Kits but I had to look for them while exploring the installation disk and after I found them I could not add the templates - or the effects within the software. The box doesn't mention DVD authoring but the software lets you choose DVD format. I didn't even get as far as to test a disk before it locked up about five times. Each time I restart the software I get the registration reminder, even though I did that while installing the software. I also had AOL installed with this software installation. I did not want AOL or I would have ordered THEIR disk.I have used Magix Video DeLuxe v.1 and v.2 (at TechTV's recommendation), Pinnacle's Expression, Ulead's DVD Workshop and Factory (and VisualStudio), Sonic's MyDVD, and soon I will try Roxio's MovieMaker. The others I have used so far are MUCH easier and cooperative for me to use; even Magix with 32 separate tracks and prosumer editing features is more intuitive, in my opinion. The video and audio additional content is neat, but I can't use it in this software. The only other plus is that the encoder is powered by Ligos Motion, which is supposed to be decent quality for viewing. As I haven't been able to get this far with the software, I can't state an opinion on that. I will save the additional movie and sound clip content to use in my other software and uninstall this product and try to give it away. Sorry, Broderbund! Yours was a name I trusted.

Fatal Error After Installation (Windows XP System),
By Lee (WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: MovieShop 6 (CD-ROM)
I'm glad I'm not the only one with the "Fatal Error...Cannot open language file....Please reinstall." problem. I just purchased this software as a part of "MediaShop Digital Studio Vers. 2" (it was an impulse buy at Costco). After installation, Movie Shop would not start because of the above problem similar to the previous reviewer's. I have a Windows XP system which meets and exceeds all system requirements as listed on the software's package. All installation instructions were followed. I have already installed the software, uninstalled the software, and restarted the computer twice. Online technical support at Broderbund didn't even list this problem. Email technical support's response time is 5-6 hours. Broderbund's phone technical support (which is not toll-free) requires a hold time of about 25 minutes. I didn't even bother. I decided it's just not worth it. I'm returning this product.Note: I also have/had two other Broderbund products that either have/had installation problems or operation errors. Is it the company?

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

My first review and I would give it 0 stars if I could.I installed the software and tried to run it. An error dialog came up saying "Missing file c:\...\lang.html", followed by "missing file, re-install". Which I did. Same error. When I checked Broderbund's web site, I found that this is a known error. The problem was that I had over 500 fonts on my computer. The solution was to delete fonts until I was under 500. I contacted them saying "This is ridiculous. How can you expect your customers to delete fonts. Some people actually pay for fonts". Their response was "Other windows compliant programs also allow a maximum of 500 fonts." Maybe some of theirs, I thought. I responded saying if "you are not going to fix this, I want my money back. Their response this time was the link to the returns department. In any case the software is on its way back to Broderbund for a refund.

This program installed and worked fine except when it came to uploading to camera. Can't do it even after repeated email exchanges with tech support. Shopping again.

If you are required to buy this software, do not buy it even if it is free, amazon will lose free shipping fee for it and you will lose your precious time for this garbage.

Crashed when trying to import wav files for short film soundtrack. Rebooted and used audiograbber to convert wav to mp3. Program crashed again when trying to import the mp3. Also crashed when trying to use anything from windowsmedia. Turned a fun movie project into a frustrating experience that chewed a lot of time without reaching satisfactory conclusion.
Movie could be broken up by frame and separated by titles. You can even tint and choose different fonts. Really bites to get through all the frame editing work only to find that a soundtrack can't be added. Broderbund's rep has taken a big step down with me.

HORABLE HORABLE HORABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: MovieShop 6 (CD-ROM)
If I could rate this Zero stars, I would. It says on the front that it works with analog and digital camcorders. It might but you need I link for that, not USB. But my Analog camcorder doesn't have a I link port. So 6 months later I sell my analog for a digital (it is very hard to find editing software for analog camcorders anyway) and I get an I link adapter for my computer. IT STILL DOESN"T WORK! I E-mail tech support 6 times. each time they tell me to adjust something different in the settings and finally they just said they didn't know what to do. Circuit City wont let me refund it and Neither will Broderbund so im stuck with it. It is an overall waist of time and if you want to edit videos, find something else that actually works.

I used this to edit some movies that came off my digital camera in Quicktime movie format. I was able to edit them together into nice little movies with titles and transitions between scenes, and I put them on my web site in both Windows Media Player format and Quicktime format. I didn't have any troubles with it, although my needs were simple. Only thing is I wish it could write VCD, but it seems there is an upgrade version that can do this, so I might give that a try.

I got this software for free and it wasn't even worth that. I can't even get into it because it says my screen resolution is not high enough when it actually is. Tried to adjust it and have given up!
