Peace lover's handbook
Don tells the story of working riverboats during Vietnam against the Viet Cong. Don is now gone but he was one of the good ones. This is the middle book of a three book series chronicling his service career.

Riverine: Brown Water Sailor in the Delta 1967
The history surrounding Don Sheppard is incorrect. Don was actually the Commander of RIVRON 5, Section 51, part of Task Force 116.1, the most decorated unit in Viet Nam. Don did not usually participate in patrols. Every time he was on my boat PBR-39 was for a photo op. One time he was on the cover of the Navy Times with a flaming arrow starting hutches on...

The history surrounding Don Sheppard is incorrect. Don was actually the Commander of RIVRON 5, Section 51, part of Task Force 116.1, the most decorated unit in Viet Nam. One time he was on the cover of the Navy Times with a flaming arrow starting hutches on fire with this primative device...bull...the guy not in the picture was behind me using a flame thrower, starting the fires. This is one of several instances for photo ops, the rest I will not indicate.

Not to be missed!,

For anyone interested in the Vietnam War, and especially the action in the rivers and canals of the Mekong Delta, this book
is a must. From battle action to humor to human interest stories, this memoir from an officer who was there is highly entertaining and hard to put down. You won't be disappointed.

I've read, A Brown Water Sailor in the Delta several times. You see, I was there in 1967 and 1968 myself. Mr. Sheppard did a supurb job depicting the life of PBR sailors and the hardships they endured while patroling the rivers and canals of Viet Nam's Mekong Delta. Don Sheppard is not only a fine author but a Warrior in the truest meaning of the word. If you havn't read this one, you really should; it is great reading.
