River's Edge is an 80's era independent film that draws influence from every genre possible to ultimately create a twisted, yet beautiful movie...i would prefer not to give too much way about the film...but i highly recomend it to any open-minded movie fan

All the films Hollywood is releasing today can never marvel to the excellent Rivers Edge. A brilliantly acted and directed film that is so Disturbing and innerly haunting and as well as interesting and powerful. Its probably the most powerful film ever made next to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest and CRUMB. I can't begin to tell you how much I love this movie. I love the performances by Crispin Glover and Dennis Hopper. I love the story and the fact that it is so realistic and the emotions are so real and the music is so haunting and just everything about this film is wonderful. I just wish a certain award ceremony would notice excellent films like this. I would put this movie on my top 5 favorite films of all time list any day. Un-nerving.

If you ever doubted that truth is stranger than fiction, check out this true story and masterful film that became an instant cult classic in 1987, and still survives today as a case study in adolescent psychology at many major universities. Director Tim Hunter (Saint of Fort Washington) brings to life this spine chilling yet somber contemporary drama that will have you not believing your eyes, or the fact that this story is a true one. This film exemplifies a raw, honest look at teenage alienation and ambivalence, where values have been twisted far beyond adult comprehension. It is an account of an actual event whereby a close knit group of teenagers discover that one of their own has killed his girlfriend. Emotionally ill prepared, they struggle to differentiate between friendship and responsibility. What ensues is a chain of events that is as mesmerizing as it is incredible, and as hypnotic as it is horrifying! Expertly cast and acted, this film is brought to life by very memorable character portrayals by Crispin Glover (Layne), Keanu Reeves (Matt), Ione Skye (Clarissa), Roxana Zal (Maggie), Daniel Roebuck (Samson), Joshua Miller (Tim ), and Dennis Hopper (Feck) as a half crazed psychopathic murderer himself. The close associations drawn by this film with such things as sex and death will linger in your consciousness for days on end, and compel you to see this movie again and again. Truly a work of cinematic art and great film making. Excellent !!!

Straight up this has got to be the lost art of good film making. The movie is filled with an errie sense of gloom and depression. The angst ridden characters fulfill thier duty to the story, from Layne the speed addict and over imaginitive best friend of samson(Jon). This movie really demenstrates what Real suspense is. not that crappy 5 billion dollar plot that has been used in every movie but something you don't see very often, AN ORIGINAL STORY LINE THAT IS GOOD. If you haven't seen this movie, then you need to. and if you are waiting to see a movie that doesn't suck then see this movie, even tho it has Mr. reeves the story isn't compromised.
all im saying is that this is the best movie period and they need to re-release it on dvd before they make another corny action movie like the hulk or spiderman.

I seen this movie when I was a kid, and till this day I have wanted to see it again. It affected me that much to want to see after all this time. When I finally did, it was exactly the way I remembered it. This movie should get some kind of recognition, cause they just don't make movies like this anymore. This movie was one of the best of all times.

this is one of the moast powerfull films I have ever seen. it is a wonderfuly twisted story of teanage alienation and dysfunctional values. This is a must see for all fans of dark comedy,
