"Tightrope Terror" was just that; a terror. Hard to believe anyone got this toy to function as promised in the ads. Here's the rundown; the towers and the bases snap together with thin, cheap, hard plastic that is easy to break. Once together, you can't get them apart again to store back in the box for fear of breaking them. In order for the toy to function at all, you have to put heavy piles of books or weights on the bases to keep them in place. THERE IS NOWHERE ON THE BOX THAT STATES THIS. And the pictures don't show it either. If you are lucky, and the towers are perfectly aligned with each other, and you pull on the ripcord hard enough, the vehicle might make it across the string. Even when it does it usually crashes as it enters the second tower. The furthest I got the car to stay on the line was about four feet, and as soon as it hit the tower landing area it jumped off the track 3/4 of the time. My son got this toy as a gift for his birthday. Thank goodness it came with a gift receipt. The car by itself was cool, and as another reviewer posted, I would get these by themselves and forget this set. As an aside, reviewers will soon be required to state when they are being paid by a manufacturer to review their toys as so many positive reviews come out for items that are simply junk. BEWARE.

Really, it just doesn't work. The car will not go across the tightrope at all. I honestly can't believe they are actually trying to sell this -- it is useless. My son was terribly disappointed.

This is my son's (he's 7-yr-old) first GX racer toy and I am impressed!! He and his friend love playing with this toy!! They start off with a short rope and then pull it longer... the car does not always make it across but that motivates them to investigate why and fix the ends and rope. It's fun to watch them evaluate how to fix it. Note: the rope must be aligned with the grooves on the towers and the rope must be tight. The car is fun on its own as well. Would definitely recommend!!

What a disaster this toy turned out to be. I bought it as a Christmas gift for my nephew and it frustrated him to tears. I was so so sorry that I had chosen this toy for his gift. Only one time did we manage to get the car to go about one foot across the rope before it fell off. To "start" the car we had to hold it in our hand and by the time we put it on the rope the speed was already decreasing. So of course the car won't go very far unless you put it on the rope very quickly. This is a challenge for a little kid. Then if the rope is not perfectly aligned the car still won't go across. You have to put really heavy books on the towers for them to stand up; they shift easily so it is very difficult to keep the rope aligned. This toy is a nightmare. It doesn't deserve even the one star I had to give it.

Doesn't work. We first tried regular books to hold down the towers... but couldn't get the string tight enough for the cars to make it even half way across. Next moved on to my wife's college nursing books... with 3 on each tower the cars still wouldn't finish even with the hardest pull. The car would just crash on the farthest tower. Moved on from books to taping the towers to the floor to see if we could tighten the string even tighter. Still could not make it down the ramp on the far tower. The car would just crash at the tower. Big Fail!

My son picked this out as a birthday gift. We set it up.
But we failed to ever get the the car to land on the far track across the tight rope. It always fell off right at the end. He was very angry with it b/c it was not like the commercials. It was a hard lesson for him so I will give it an extra star for education. A lesson in tough breaks. The car traverses the rope well however it fails to have an exit strategy (so I call it the Iraq war toy). The car itself is awesome hence the extra star. We brought this whole contraption back to target and bought just a car and just the car is indeed fun ($[...]). This track and string is flimsy and not worth $[...], let alone $[...]+. If you look at the picture, you see a kid having fun. He is a good actor. The 2 towers in the picture need to be anchored down and the instructions tell you to basically cover the entire toy with heavy books (they even show pictures of books). DO NOT WANT !!

I was leery about buying this because of the reviews that said it didn't work. My kids got this from Santa this year and they love it. DD is 7 and DS is 5. She has better luck than him with getting it all the way across. The cousins who came over on Christmas were able to make it all the way across the 10ft length. Yes, it does need to be lined up properly and yes, you do need to weigh down the end with books or a heavy object but overall a very cool toy!

The Tightrope works great. My friends kids played with Tightrope for hours. All you need to do is line up the two towers and decide how long to make the tightrope. My friends five year old got the car to go almost 8 feet on a rope. It was amazing. The car looks like it is flying through the air. It is really cool when you spin the car on the rid cord. Easy to set up and super durable. Highly recommend.

My son is having a great time with this toy. With very little help from me he was able to follow the pictures in the instructions & put it together almost entirely by himself. Yes, we had to use books to stabilize the ends but that was expected otherwise the price would have been a lot more if we were given some sort of weights with it. My son started out with a very short length of rope and is building up to a longer & longer length. Each time he moves the ends and tries the stunt at a longer distance it works perfectly. Here's a hint: Make sure the ropes are exactly lined up in the grooves & stretched tight. If it's out of alignment the car won't make it across. I gave high stars for educational value because my son was able to figure out the instructions himself. We love it!!!
