BRILLIANT ARTIST - UNDER RATED,
By "mondrayuk" (West Coast USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Roachford Files (Audio CD)
Here is an example of an under rated artist whom has a brilliant style of music that will increase your adrenaline while you drive your car at high speed and make you sing from your lungs at full blast. Roachford has a similar style to Lenny Kravitz, Seal and Lighthouse Family. This a greatest hits album that is an excellent compilation of this British artist that will be a good addition to one's collection. I particularly like the rhythmn and semi acoustic guitar work with soulful funk blended in with contemporary "middle of the road" rock with some orchestration. There are meanful lyrics in the songs sung with lots of expression.I am British living on the west coast of The USA and I love playing this album at full volume in my Corvette with the T top removed. Many people have asked me who is this artist as they have never heard of Roachford. Well - he is a British cool dude that should have made it big time!!! Roachford is a good stress relief and anti-depressant.

funk soul brother,
By marco (Manchester, England) - See all my reviews

Think chilled out, think soul. Think of your foot tapping, stereo turned up where it belongs.A truly classic album. Can be played over over and over. A stunning combination from a cool brother who combines soul, R & B, with a touch of the blues in timeless form. If you think you like a bit of soul, and you appreciate a blessing of a voice, then you should give this one a whirl ...

I just "discovered" this artist via Mike & The Mechanics. I saw him performing live at the Royal Albert Hall in London on tour with the Mechanics. An excellent artist with a uniqie R&B/Soul voice - great personality. They played his solo album hit single "Cuddly Toy" and this got me curious to visit his recent albums. This album is just that place to begin. Great tracks that will continue to spin around in your car stereo system.
I recommend this CD to all those who love good rhythms and lots of soul.

Brilliant and under-rated,

So glad to see Roachford on Amazon. Just buy it - you wont regret it. Seal, Lighthouse, yes - except Roachford is better. Cuddly Toy, the song that actually made it to the charts, is one of the most ordinary on this album. This album brings back fantastic memories. Am actually online looking to buy some of his other stuff...

A hidden gem,
By Too many toys (National Capital Region) - See all my reviews

Isn't it shocking that nearly every album you look at is rated as 4.5 stars. :) You will hear some Prince and some Luther Vandross in this artist. I don't know about adrenaline, but it is some toe tapping music and well done. There are some great songs that will cause you to wonder why you aren't hearing them on the radio "Man that I am". Well worth the money and will encourage you to look for more Roachford.

Criminally under-rated artist,
By Muddy Moe (Plano, TX United States) - See all my reviews

I first learned of Roachford in the late '80's when I was a student in Surrey, England. As an American, I was delighted to see this English artist live on several occasions and was a little surprised when I returned to the US that the band wasn't bigger. If you like '80's pop/funk with some flavors of Prince, Kool and the Gang, with some rock sensibilities thrown in, check out Roachford. The band has some great songwriting skills. This is intelligent stuff, but also a lot of fun. You won't be disappointed. |
