The McCornack's wide-ranging repertoire includes many critically-acclaimed original compositions. Themes of love, humor, respect for living things and natural beauty fill their performances.
Mike & Carleen have proven equally at home performing for families who know them from their award-winning childrens recordings, and for adults who appreciate their musical depth and off-center humor.
The McCornacks tour and perform throughout the Pacific Northwest, and to date have released six recordings: A Road To Call Your Own (2002), High Hopes (1997, a Parents Guide Award winner), Sunshine Cake (1993), Beasties, Bumbershoots and Lullabies (1989, 1992, a Parents Choice Gold Award winner), Live on Earth (1983, re-released 2002), and Possibilities (1974, out of print). Both are accomplished songwriters whose music has been recorded and performed by many other artists.
Since 1989 Mike & Carleen have frequently been joined in concert and on their recordings by three outstanding Northwest musicians, Dale Bradley and Kevin and Eileen McCornack, collectively known as the Garden Variety Band. Their daughter Megan and son Andrew contribute piano and percussion to their most recent release A Road To Call Your Own.
While the core of their performances are vocals and acoustic guitar, concerts by Mike & Carleen and the Garden Variety Band feature such diverse instruments as cello, bassoon, concertina, string bass, accordion, hammer dulcimer, harp, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, flute and a variety of small percussion instruments.
Native Oregonians, Mike & Carleen currently live in Eugene with their two children, two yellow Labradors and three cats! They own and operate Garden Variety Productions, a musical services and publishing company, and Garden Variety Record Company.
