5.0 out of 5 stars PINSKER'S "AUTO-EMANCIPATION," A CLASSIC OF ZIONISM, May 9, 2011
This review is from: Road to Freedom (Hardcover)
Leon Pinsker (1821-1891) was a physician, a Zionist pioneer and activist, and the founder and leader of the Hovevei Zion or "Lovers of Zion" movement. Here are some quotations from this book (which was originally published in 1882):

"The Jewish people have no fatherland of their own, though many motherlands... They are everywhere as guests, and are nowhere AT HOME. The nations NEVER have to deal with a Jewish NATION but always with mere JEWS." (Pg. 76)
"He must be blind indeed who will assert that the Jews are not the chosen people, the people chosen for universal hatred." (Pg. 79)
"Since the Jew is nowhere at home, nowhere regarded as a native, he remains an alien everywhere." (Pg. 81)
"National self-respect! Where can we obtain it? It is truly the greatest misfortune of our race that we do not constitute a nation; that we are merely Jews." (Pg. 84)
"We need nothing but a large piece of land of our own... from which no foreign master can expel us." (Pg. 94)
"...the masses will take our side." (Pg. 124)
"Our Jews who flirt with Christianity are worse to us than the Slavs, Roumanians and Magyars. They will flirt with it until there will come a time when they will forsake their Judaism entirely." (Pg. 137)
"In addition, RELIGIOUS partisanship has brought harm to our NATIONAL unity, to our solidarity." (Pg. 140)
