Review

Hell is Real For Christians and Non-Christians!

It may not be politically correct to believe in Hell any more but David Pawson does and he challenges Christians and Non-Christians with the scriptural evidence. David is to be congratulated that he hasn't given in to pressure to preach an Annihilationism 'gospel'. Many Christians will dislike what this book says, but then the truth is the truth and we need to face it squarely, Bible in hand. --Customer Review Amazon UK

TIME TO THINK

David Pawson has a way of writing that makes complex subjects seem easy to understand, and this book is a good example of his ability. The reader is challenged, and will recognise that the moment has come when it is time to think about the question of hell, and the path that can be taken to keep away from hell. Well worth reading - it can make a big difference to your life, both now and into eternity. --Mr. Barry Robinson --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

About the Author

David Pawson occupies a key position among British Christian writers. His best known work, Unlocking the Bible, continues to be a worldwide bestseller in print, audio and video formats. Unlocking the Bible and other works such as The Normal Christian Birth have been called Pawson s legacy to the church. Pawson is known for accepting biblical text as the authoritative word of God while explaining its meaning and context in a practical and understandable language. Because he follows the teaching of Scripture where it clashes with church tradition, his books are often controversial. Today David speaks around the world and is received on God TV by millions of viewers in almost every country. Born in 1930, David, determined to become a farmer, began his career with a B.Sc. in agriculture at Durham University in England. He was surprised when God intervened and led him to become a Christian minister. Studying for an advanced degree in theology at Cambridge University, under the influence of liberal educators, Pawson lost his trust in the Bible and very nearly his faith in God. After a short spell in ministry for the Methodist church, he regained his trust in the infallibility and inerrancy of the Bible while a chaplain in the Royal Air Force of Great Britain. During this period he decided to preach the Bible systematically from start to finish. The results among the servicemen surprised both him and them, and confirmed to him Scripture s inspiration. Since then, his preaching has either been Bible study or topical studies based on a detailed, contextual examination of what the Bible says. As pastor of Guildford Baptist Church (the Millmead Centre), Pawson established a reputation among both evangelicals and charismatics as an effective and balanced expositor of the Bible. Under Pawson s ministry, Millmead became the largest Baptist church in Britain. The church was unusual in that attendance was double the membership number; people regularly came from London to hear Pawson preach. Cliff Richard, who had been baptized by Pawson, was a regular attendee. From here his teaching tapes - originally made for the church s sick and elderly members - became popular worldwide. Behind the communist Iron Curtain these tapes struck a chord with the persecuted church. Missionaries and spiritual leaders in far-off corners of the world, without the opportunity to sit under a regular teaching ministry, became a significant audience for Pawson s preaching. In the last forty years literally millions of David s messages on cassette tape (CD, DVD and MP3 today) have been distributed around the world. Pawson left Millmead in 1979 and engaged in an itinerant worldwide Bible teaching ministry, which has been his main work to the present. During this time he has written a number of books. He is a frequent speaker in the UK and throughout Europe; his speaking engagements have taken him to many parts of the world, including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, The Netherlands, Israel, Southeast Asia and the United States. David Pawson lives near Basingstoke, Hampshire in southern England with his wife Enid. In his 70s he remains busy with speaking engagements in Europe, the US and at the Festival of Tabernacles in Israel, which he was a pioneer in encouraging Christians to attend. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

First, I want to thank Terra Nova Publications for making David Pawson's books available in e-Book format.

"The Road to Hell: Everlasting Torment or Annihilation?" is a good explanation of all Jesus' sayings about hell (including those in Revelation). I learned some new points that I've never heard, that hell is a final destination of torment that is still prepared and that most (if not all) of the sayings of Jesus about hell are directed as warnings to believers in God.

The book is mostly concerned on the question: "What will hell be like, everlasting torment or annihilation?". Today we really need an answer to that question, because concept about annihilation sounds really convenient for anyone who believes in God of love, who can't in his love throw any man in hell to be tormented forever.

Regarding explanation about hell, I was a little disappointed that there is no Old Testament background about Hades (which I found is used 63 times with Strong's index H7585 in KJV). Indeed, David Pawson mentions that Hades and Hell are two different places, but at least we need that background, because both places seems to be related. For example, one of the cases where Hades is mentioned is where Korah, Dathan, and Abiram went down alive in Hades. So, even if we look only in the New Testament we will see that epistle of Judas gives a strong warning and includes that OT case as "perished in the gainsaying of Core".

Finally, I give 4 stars (out of 5), because the book starts with the conclusions and ends with the explanations of each Bible text. This makes it hard for reading and following. In addition, no excerpts of the Bible texts are included. This is very inconvenient, because I read on a Kindle and I can't open two books simultaneously. I read authors explanation to open my Bible next to his book, but that just can't be done with eBook readers, yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Back to the future, December 19, 2011

Let's be honest, the concept of hell is terrifying for most but to add to it , change it or worst of all, ignore it, is something we do at our own peril. It's a good reminder of what hell is and why it needs to be preach and spoken about. The most interesting thing to me was that out of the 80 verses that talk about hell, 78 were directed to believers. We would do well to ask the question, why?

Not the most pleasant reading but much needed. Again, my only complaint with the kindle or e-version is that it is very pricey. I suspect if it more reasonably priced they would sell many more. Otherwise, I highly recommend it
