This book is in my opinion complete waste of money. The description of how immune system works is oversimplified and suitable for persons who have no previous knowledge of medical topics. This is a great book for anyone interested in improving their health or in obtaining ideas for difficult to solve health problems including allergies, food and environmental sensitivities, etc. It has a great deal of details which many other books lack and has chapters on food & nutrition, stress, and alternative therapies with many ideas for boosting your own immunity to common and rare health problems. This is a well written book that I would highly recommend to anyone interested in the subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "Must Read", May 30, 2000

This well written summary will benefit anyone. Whether you have a debilitating illness or are in seemingly good health, Road to Immunity will draw attention to the importance of a "whole body" approach to living. Chapter 3 titled "Immunology 101" is an excellent summary of the immune system written in layman's terms. This is an outstanding read and should be a part of any library.

This book is in my opinion complete waste of money. The description of how immune system works is oversimplified and suitable for persons who have no previous knowledge of medical topics. The case histories described are truly frightening. Imagine a "holistic" doctor keeping someone (who is also diagnosed with chronic candidiasis) for eight months on intravenous antibiotics. The author gives alternative medicine a bad name. Most of the cases described are "chronic Lyme disease" which he somehow managed to diagnose in spite of negative tests. What a genius. He also likes to treat his patients with "oxidative therapy" i.e. intravenous hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide must be very versatile substance, you can use it for established applications such as antiseptic or to bleach your hair, and according to Dr. Bock it can also cure anything from cancer to infections. Case study of cancer he presented regrettably died after her cancer spread everywhere, but she was feeling good which he counts as success. Another one of his favourite treatments is photooxydative therapy, where in addition to intravenous hydrogen peroxide he irradiates blood with UV radiation, if I remember correctly at 266 nm or so, which is supposed to "transfer energy to blood cells". Nothing is said about damage done to the blood cells in the process.
This creature should have his licence revoked. For the record, I have chronic health complaints and use herbal&nutritional medicine and have achieved releif of the symptoms, so this negative review is not a consequence of any prejudice towards alternative methods. As a physicist working on optical properties of organic compounds, I find his notions of "energy" laughable and erroneous, and I think his treatments can be highly dangerous. If you don't get any solution for your problem from conventional medicine, there are a number of alternative parctices which, unlike those described in this book, do no harm.

The book gets pretty technical, but I like that. I wish there were MD's in my area willing to use some of the naturopathic wisdom.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Brilliant and Invaluable Model of Health and Immunity, March 23, 2006
By
This review is from: The Road to Immunity: How To Survive and Thrive in a Toxic World (Paperback)
Bock takes a broad minded and inclusive approach to health and wellbeing. He is refreshingly questioning and quizzical of the narrow minded and overly interventionist nature of orthodox (allopathic) medicine with its singular focus on the 'sickness' end of the health/wellness spectrum. He is thought provoking yet easy to understand for health professionals and the lay person/patient alike. He offers a simple and easily understood model of immunity and the multiple steps leading to chronic ill health. He goes on to discuss practical and wide ranging steps to achieving optimal health and immunity drawing on a broad array of allopathic, complementary and alternative health modalities. His approach is both practical and sensible. Whilst providing a comprehensive and invaluable compendium of health care he stimulates further research and reading, above all advocating retaining responsibility for your own health and wellbeing. Readers of The Road to Immunity will be left immeasurably better informed and empowered to achieve or regain better health. I'd advocate making this book a compulsory element of the educational curriculum.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Road to the Recycling Center, August 4, 2011
This review is from: The Road to Immunity: How To Survive and Thrive in a Toxic World (Paperback)
Paging through this book I bought back in 1999, I realize there are some significant outdated and proven unsuccessful treatments listed in here. I like to donate books I'm finished with to charity, but this one's going straight to the paper recycling center. That's how I will help to improve our toxic world. I couldn't in good conscience let this book out for someone to get a hold of potentially harmful and inaccurate medical information. I'm an advocate of naturally improving our immune systems, but some of the treatments here are unsafe. Other reviews of this book here have noted these dubious treatments, such as intravenous hydrogen peroxide injections, so I need not repeat. Please, just don't buy this book.

Don't waste your money. This book would be better classified under medical fiction. Based on my experience the theories and practices espoused in this book flat out do not work.
