From Library Journal
Toronto sports broadcaster Berger has compiled a fascinating documentary about his journey with the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey club: 48 games, 80 practices, 31 flights, and numerous shuttles and buses during last year's strike-shortened 102-day season. This is a rare opportunity to look behind the scenes at a pro sports franchise. Interestingly, most people view pro athletes as pampered, well-paid individuals. Not entirely so, states the author. The grueling travel schedule, practice/game routine, hotel living, plus fan and management pressure overshadow the glamour. The players deal with the stress through tight-knit camaraderie, practical jokes, and zealous dedication. On The Road is an easy-to-read, insightful study, featuring an assortment of photos and biographies for each team member. Hockey aficionados will relish it.
