5.0 out of 5 stars SUPERB, INTIMATE PERFORMANCES BY THE AMAZING ANA EGGE, February 17, 2009

Five MESMERIZING Stars!! Award-winning singer/songwriter/musician Ana Egge (pronounced egg'-e) has a beautiful, memorable soprano voice that can change from sweet to plaintive to bright to lush. Full of honesty, passion, and her own arresting vocal prowess, she delivers 12 original, highly personal folk songs and one traditional gospel song. Some are tinged with flourishes of rock, country, and blues: played on a marvelous sounding guitar that she built with her own hands. Co-produced with Jason Mercer of Ani Difranco's band, the supporting musicians and singers include: Steve Moore playing wurlitzer, Adam Levy on electric guitar, Tony Scherr on acoustical bass, and Michael Jerome on drums, with Trish Cline and Frazey Ford on background vocals.

Very autobiographical, the 'best of the best' begins with the urgent "Storm Comin'" that deals with interpersonal rising temperatures. Sometimes the songs are wistful like the intertwined story lines of longing and regret in "The Bully of New York" which went straight to my iPod; or the series of glowing images as in "The Sea Around You", or meeting a soldier coming back in "Carey's Waltz", and fervently in the personal "Farmer's Daughter". The CD concludes with a powerful, unusual, deeply affecting "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" aided by strong resonator guitar lines full of suspended overtones. Ana Egge is a wonderfully talented singer who deserves a wider audience. Let's hope venues like Leno, Letterman, and Saturday Night Live catch up to her amazing artistry as Lilith Fair, the Austin and New York music scenes, as well as an army of fans and high profile musicians have already done. Highly Recommended. Five POETIC Stars (This review is based on an iTunes Plus download.)

A great mix of songs with nice instrumental and soothing voice just wants me want to relax with a good Cabernet. A couple numbers remind me of Joni Mitchell but Ana is an artist of her own. Well produced album. Though it would be better if she was still in Austin and doing local shows but I suspect she'll still play a few of the Hill Country haunts.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Sky Inside, March 7, 2009

Ana Egge has developed into one of my favorite artists. Her wistful vocals make us feel that there's one foot in the past. The opener "Storm Comin'" throbs with energy from the rhythm guitar as Ana moans with big issues, "Three strikes I invite you in, All the while knowin' that you'll bring the sky inside & make me feel small again." "Quitting Early" rocks gently midtempo with a tasty electric lead guitar and makes you feel good despite being a breakup song, "A lover is, A lover does, It was easy, I let you down, Now you don't feel the need to trust me." Other tracks are also good like the lovely ballads "The Sea Around You," the gorgeous "The Last One" & the peppy "It's Been Too Long." The CD concludes with a lovely version of "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" complete with slide guitar. Egge's disc is on Parkinsong Records that contributes towards finding a cure for Parkinson's disease. This is another excellent outing by Egge, satisfying & sweet. Enjoy!
