5.0 out of 5 stars As good as anything by Jimmy Lafave July 5, 2000
Format:Audio CD
I saw Jimmy Lafave for the first time live in 1994 as a supporting act for some guy I long forgot. It was one of the best live performances I have seen, acoustic, and my first introduction to his work. Jimmy Lafave has been one of my favorite singers since, not because he is such an exceptional songwriter, but because I don't know any other artist who performs in such an intense way as he does. Road Novel is much the same as Highway trance and Buffalo return to the plains, a mix of heart-tearing ballads and up-tempo rockers, the same themes coming back. The album is as good as its predecessors. Long ago with miles between is my favorite on this album, which also contains some well-chosen covers, among them Buckets of Rain of Bob Dylan. Buy the album, or, even better, see Jimmy live !

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite la Fave July 8, 2007
Format:Audio CD
I heard him at Poor David's Pub 15 years ago or so. Road Novel is my absolute favorite. So good it makes me sing into my thumb much to the dismay of neighborhood cats. He is awesome, soulful and just makes you want to make out with someone! I love "Into Your Life" and "Buckets of Rain". It's been awhile since i have bought any of his other CDs (I have Buffalo and Trail but aren't as up to speed on them.). I think I am due for some new Jimmy. Love that soul, Jimmy...keep it up. The junk on the radio is just that....come see us in Dallas again.

I love Jimmy and I think this might be his best CD. Best version of Buckets of Rain I ever heard too!

5.0 out of 5 stars more sensible storytelling May 18, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
While most of the music thrown out to the public is just fluff over dance beats it is promising to know that the great heritage of singer songwriters lives on. Jimmy LaFave is one of the best singer songwriters of the day, but because of lack of radio support outside of the Austin area it is hard to find those knowledgable of his talents. With three independant studio albums he did while in Oklahoma and six albums on the Bohemia Beat label out of Denver one would believe that such a talent would be a household name. Even with his most recent albums on Red House Records, Jimmy still is known only to the musicians and fans that are lucky enough to be able to say that they were once faced with the winds blowing across the red dirt land carrying with it the sounds and stories that have been embodied in that which we know as LaFave.
