4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting - but you should know that it's a BOOK and CD, January 21, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Road to Paradiso (Audio CD)
This one is rather interesting, but the description is very misleading. The item is actualy a glossy BOOK (about 1/4" thick - with plenty of neat pictures and history about the band. Included is an audio CD with a half-dozen songs and interviews about the making of each song. Definitely worth having for fans - but it is NOT just a CD.

3.0 out of 5 stars Essential for the serious Epica fan, February 26, 2011
By
This review is from: Road to Paradiso (Audio CD)
If you are the kind of Epica fan who needs to have their complete discography, you have to have this book and the CD included with it. The musical tracks overlap with other items in your collection, but some are only available here.

If you're a bit less fanatic, you might still enjoy the book. It's a well-produced band history book that keeps the focus where it should be: the band, the fans, and the concerts. There is very little on the studio productions, for whatever that's worth.

The text provides a nice history of the band, how it built its reputation and following, and the early years of success. That history is told from the inside, by the band members, and not from a journalist's perspective. There are many photos and recollections from fans as well as from the band's members. The photos dominate the text, so it's best to think of this as being a softcover "coffee table" book.

Valuable as it is for the serious fan, it's hard to imagine a non-fan being intrigued by the book. It does nothing to reach out to a wider audience, as a biography of Johnny Cash or the Beatles might try to do. Its rather narrow appeal cost it a star in my rating. If you're a hard-core fan, I'm sure you'll rate it a "five."

5.0 out of 5 stars Epic - Epica!, March 30, 2009
This review is from: Road to Paradiso (Audio CD)
Anyone who is a fan of Epica should try to get a copy of this book and Cd combination. The band history is well outlined in the book and there are some stunning photographs too.

The CD has interviews as well as music by the band and is equally informative. It does come expensive though and I still don,t know why I ended up paying customs duty on this item, which added an extra £12 to the cost !!!
