Book Description

January 5, 2006
Road Player: The Danny Diliberto Story. This new book by Jerry Forsyth, Pool & Billiards Magazine's premier writer, was just released at the Derby City (pool and billiards) Tournament on January 6th, 2006 and was an instant smash. Published by Bebob Publishing, it is a lifetime of stories from the vibrant memory of Danny Diliberto, one of Accu-Stat Video's most popular commentators. Beginning with the Hustler's Tournaments in Johnston City, Diliberto was one of the fabled road players. He excelled in four sports: baseball, bowling, boxing, and pool. Boxing was his first love, but his own hands could not stand the power of his blows. Pool gave him his greatest fame and that's what this book is about. Any devotee of the game will be fascinated with this look into the immediate past of pool and billiards. From Las Vegas to Hollywood to the smallest towns on the most distant highways, this is the life of the roadman, a gambler's tale in his own words. A great book!

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent look into the pool room sub-culture, October 22, 2007

This review is from: Road Player: The Danny Diliberto Story (Paperback)
Best book on the poolroom lifestyle I ever read. I highly recommend it.

This book is a character study of the men your parents told you not to become. It is hard hitting and direct, and tells the story of Danny Diliberto, pool hustler extraordinaire.

If you ever thought of living this life, you will like this book.

Life in the poolroom and "on the road" was interesting, amazing and, at times, somewhat degenerate. This book will give you a look into that poolroom atmosphere through the eyes of one of the greatest players and hustlers of the 20th century.

I grew up playing pool in Miami in the 1960's and knew Danny Diliberto. His exploits were legendary. This book tells it like it is in terms of his lifestyle, his accomplishments and failures, and his heart.

It is not a very well-written book... seems a bit disjointed at times, as if each chapter was recorded chronologically but the chapters themselves are not chronological. However, the story of Danny's life is so vivid and factual (as far as I know) that the content far outweighs the chronology shortcomings.

4.0 out of 5 stars tells his story the bad and the good, December 19, 2011

This review is from: Road Player: The Danny Diliberto Story (Paperback)
He writes about his life and tells the good right along with the not so good. Certainly not a role model and what I would expect the usual pool player to be like. He slams Jay Helfer at the end of the book about a pool tape that was made. I enjoyed reading Pool Wars by Jay also. Both right interesting stories and the books are hard to put down.
