The Road Rally Handbook Review,
By Steve Vandal (Southern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Road Rally Handbook: The Complete Guide to Competing in Time-Speed-Distance Road Rallies (Paperback)
I bought this book because I wanted to get back into Rallying, specially TSD. This book and Gross's tables book and pocket guide available are excellent resources. My only disappointment was that much of the equipment discussed in the book is not available nor is there a current source listed. The sections on the equipment still helped knowing the advantages and setup issues with different types. I found he covered many different ways to do things and with different equipment which was very helpful. There are enough clues and helpful hints to save you a lot of disappointing failures once you start your first couple of rallys. Definitely a resource worth getting even for someone who has rallied and is not getting better scores or who hasn't rallied in awhile. Buy it and his other resources!!! Four stars because the equipment references are old and always found on the internet.

Road-Rally handbook review,

In the fall, my husband and I went leaf-peeping in New England and met up with some of his old college buddies. They convinced us to try a car rally that was happening the next day. We loved the concept, but had NO idea what we were doing. They gave us a copy of their Road Rally Handbook. We wished we had it before we ran the rally. It let us know what those crazy acronyms were! We now have our own copy and refer to it every rally.

My wife and I love to try different types of sports together: whitewater rafting, sailing, sea kayaking, just to name a few. But racing cars so far has remained something I tried alone. We do enjoy exploring back country roads however and recently someone suggested that we may enjoy road rally together. I started doing some research and got this book to see what the sport is about. What a great book! It clearly explains all the basics and gives lots of great tips. I particularly enjoyed the chapter on driving dynamics, since power slides are not something we do much in open wheel cars. I think we'll be quite well prepared when we try our first rally in the spring. We are so eager to put these teachings into practice!

Now that I'm retired, I have a bit more time on my hands and wanted to get backto a fun car sport that I participated in as a young man in my 20's. Except that I don't have the memory of a 20 year old. The Road Rally Handbook was a marvelous refresher course.

It was my boyfriend's birthday and all I know is that he's a car freak. NASCAR, Grand Prix, autocrosses. I searched the internet for a good gift and found this HANDBOOK. He's never done a road rally, but I think I've got him ready to do one now!
