Most of us leave road repairs to the government, but a surprising number of people live off the beaten path and must maintain a private road or long driveway. Johnston, a land development and construction consultant with over 25 years of road-building experience, shows how to maintain or restore a road properly. This information should prove helpful whether one is doing the work oneself or hiring a contractor and needing to monitor and evaluate that work. In some cases, roads are jointly owned by neighbors or by a homeowners' association, and Johnston offers a number of tips on sharing road-maintenance responsibilities successfully. As with many other projects, proper preparation and preventive maintenance are the keys to success; readers are shown how to grade the surface and then care for the finished product. Admittedly, there is a small market for this type of book, but those public libraries serving rural populations should consider it.

I would recommend this book for anyone looking for information on how to fix potholes, repair their road, that has to deal with road association issues, or who is looking to hire a road construction contractor. This book is reasonably priced, very informative, thorough, and user friendly. It's a bargain!!

Awfully wordy, but where else can you find out about pot hole repair or setting up a neighborhood road association? Skim the first chapter, and then get to the heavy duty stuff comparing methods of road repair and varied techniques for different problems. Useful for rural residents struggling with disintegrating driveways. Great charts and a glossary.
