4.0 out of 5 stars Nice little reader board for the road or at the office
The Roadmaster Scrolling Message Board works as advertised and for a couple of months now has held up fine, except that the unit sometimes doesn't want to start my preprogrammed sequence of phrases in freezing NY weather. 1.0 out of 5 stars Great Idea, Poor Quality
I've had two of these. I bought the first one and it didn't work. The place I bought it from said I had to go back to the company, so I did. It took several phone calls to managers before they agreed to pay the shipping, which they thought I should pay. Finally they did send the new one out and it arrived working. I used it for a day and it stopped working again. I...

The Roadmaster Scrolling Message Board works as advertised and for a couple of months now has held up fine, except that the unit sometimes doesn't want to start my preprogrammed sequence of phrases in freezing NY weather. There are 11 storage locations for your custom messages and thankfully these can be arranged in a sequence in any order, but be warned, the device takes a long time to program in words/phrases. The IR remote control is finicky in that you have to aim it directly at the sensor on the back (using a mirror to see the display) and a couple of the buttons already need hard presses to register a character. You can edit programmed phrases but you pretty much have to erase all words from the beginning and start over. The preprogrammed sequence of phrases is started by pressing PLAY twice. The display looks vivid at night, good at dusk/dawn but barely acceptable during daylight, and if you have a tinted rear window forget about using it during daylight hours. Overall though I am pleased with this unit - sure beats trying to find bumper stickers that say what I want to say.

I opened it up to try and fix it myself, but I couldn't find a problem with my multimeter. I think there is a problem with the circuitry shorting out, but much of it is too small to get my multimeter in there so I can't go far with that. I tried calling again and left my number for a supervisor several times when they kept telling me that they couldn't take it back twice. I never got a call back. I had a supervisor's direct e-mail address from the last time, but she didn't respond to several messages. Finally I declined the charge on my credit card. I've seen these working, so perhaps I had bad luck, but if yours doesn't work make sure Amazon will take it back because the company thinks these are sold "as is" regardless of what the warranty says.

1.0 out of 5 stars Digital Message that breaks, October 26, 2010

I bought this back in May of 2010 & I have been using it to display names of dances while DJing but now it decided to stop working. I changed the battery on the remote thinking that was the problem, but NO it is still broken and the message is stuck on only one dance instead of the 10 that I had programmed. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone since it is supposed to be for cars that move around all the time and I had this thing on top of the counter and it still broke. Not worth the cheap price that's for sure! I guess you get for what you pay!

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't ever work & no customer service, October 14, 2010
This review is from: Roadmaster Rear Deck Scrolling Digital Message System (Misc.)
I received the Roadmaster Rear Deck Scrolling Digital Message System as a gift. I was very excited. A few months later I finally found the time to mount the scrolling message board.

I was extrememly disappointed to discover the remote does not work. I have pointed the remote at the sensor from every distance and angle but it still wouldn't work. I bought and replaced the battery but the remote still does not work. Because the remote doesn't work it's impossible to view any message except the original demo message that tells me to change the message.

I've attempted to contact roadmaster abou their product but have received no response. I stayed on hold more than a 1/2 hour and no one answered despite the fact that the first minute I called the operater indicated the wait time was more than 25 minutes. The operator was still indicating the wait time was more than 25 minutes after waiting for 30 minutes. I left a message to receive a call-back but did not receive a response. The website information included in the packaging I received with the scrolling message does not exist. The message when I called the customer service number and it suggests customers cotact them through the same non-existant website.

This product is a great idea but it doesn't work and customer service is non-existant. I know it's tempting because the idea is really cool but DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME.

Not as bright as I'd like, words scroll great, but no way to verify if it is facing away from you. For the price it does ok. The sticky pads on the feet melted right off the first hot day.

The product is alright. It does what it says it is suppose to do, yet does not stop repeating the demo message. If you are able to disable the demo then it was not easily described how to in the manual. It does not power off as long as it is pluggged in and will run the batery of your car down if you forget to unplug it. Overall not worth the money. Needs improvement

3.0 out of 5 stars They can't miss my advertisement, September 10, 2011

Roadmaster Rear Deck Scrolling Digital Message System

I've bought two of these and loved having them in my cars back window. The city I live in has two sets of Rail Road Tracks one must cross, or mostly wait to cross when traversing town. This makes those waiting behind me a captive audience for my advertisements.

We are told some one must see your message 7 times before they act on it. I love getting stopped at the RR crossings because by the time the tracks are clear, my message has scrolled at least 7 times, probably more depending on the length of message.

The reason I rated it a 3 star is because both my units only lasted 1 year before they quit working. I don't like paying for an item that has a short life span.

If it lasted longer, then the item would certainly rate a 5 star because of the value in advertising.

Another reviewer stated that they are nearly worthless during the day, and that is pretty much true, but if you do any traveling from dusk to dawn they perform as you would expect any outdoor sign to do.

Are they legal? I don't know, but I've had police following me, and viewing my messages without any problems from them.

Would I buy another unit? YES! At the price I paid for the first two...

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Effective (Even If Not Hi-Tech), June 14, 2010

This two-speed, scrolling LED sign's red letters are eye-catching. Programming custom messages can be complicated and tedious; but, are well worth the effort. Have used at expo booths and at outdoor events' admission gates. Great product --- and, inexpensive!

This item is perfect for telling that special someone riding your tail in your car exactly what you think of them S--t H--ds. Tell them in no uncertain terms to get off your -ss. You can create your own scrolling sign also. Make one up. Its fun.
