I could not disagree with commenter number one more. Consider yourself lucky: the thief is probably in traction now and your son is healthy! This is a cheap bike and it is poorly made.
It looks cool. My son loved the styling, but the side pull brakes are some of the cheesiest I've ever seen. I'm not expecting Campagnolo's or anything, but these things look like they were built with an erector set. They were probably defective when I received them. The bike instructions were ridiculously generic; you first had to identify what kind of brakes your bike had before you touched them...etc. There were like 20 ways to install the seat, for example. Here's how to install the derailleur on your twelve speed, ten speed, five speed...oh yeah, and if you bike only has one speed, please disregard. What fun. The only thing I got out of this was the joy of watching the disappointment on my son's face as I packed his birthday bike back in its box for shipping back to the manufacturer. You expect a kid's bike to be cheap, but I felt this bike would be dangerous to let my kid ride. Bad brakes, handlebars that you couldn't tighten properly, a seat with a shoddy quick release. I'd prefer to have my kid riding around the neighborhood, but instead I'm worried that I will take this to UPS on Monday and they tell me it's too dangerous to ship it back to the manufacturer. I hope they have lots of packing tape; it only needs to get through the manufacturer's door before its no longer my problem.

My son didn't get to ride this much as it was stolen from our (fenced and locked gate) yard less than a week after getting it. I guess it make someone jealous (they did not steal the other 2 bikes, which were also brand new).
But, I can tell you that my son did thoroughly enjoy his bike. It went together easily (mom put it together!) And while it was a step up in size for him, he felt it was a good bike for wheelies... your son will want to know that. I will buy this bike again next paycheck. He liked it enough to want to have an exact replacement. |
